Hi Steve,
Yes I am primarily freshwater and planted tank. I live in OP. I'll have to check out your site. starting a salt water tank sounds so complicated although I'm told it's just as easy as freshwater. Also if I bring another tank into this house my husband is going to kill me. I...
I wouldn't use the product that removes ammonia , you run the risk of starving your good bacteria. A simple water conditioner that removes chlorine and cloramanes (sp) will work just fine. The only time I recommend using products that remove ammonia are in a hospital tank that is not cycled.
Hi I'm new to this site although not new to fishkeeping. I've been keeping fish on and off for over 30 years. I'm a moderator on another popular board out there but, I'm looking for some freshwater fish geek friends. My friends and family do not keep fish and they think I'm just a little...
I agree that this sounds like a bacterial bloom. A blackout will have no effect on it you just have to let it run it's coarse and it will eventually go away. This is normal for newly set up tanks.
Platys and swords are commonly bred. they are both from the genus Xiphophorus.
Mollies can not breed with platys or swords they are from the genus Poecilia. Mollies can breed with guppies but this is fairly rare and the off spring are usually sterile. Mollies and guppies really prefer to breed...
Thanks Mr. funktastic, that is an older picture of my tank I have since scaled back on the number of species, less is better and a bit more managable. I do usually take my pictures at night as I have found out they do turn out nicer.
Hi could you provide a little more information about your tank? what size is the tank and what other occupants are in with the barbs? How long has the tank been set up? Have you tested the water for ammonia, nitrItes, nitrAtes and ph? if so what were the results. Anytime you notice change in...
^agreed. Even though water changes may slow the cycle the most important part is keeping the fish healthy throught the process. It's a double edged sword.
No malachite green and formalin are usually used to treat external parasites. Jungle makes a pellet type food you can crush into smaller bite size pieces. There is also a product called gel tek but I have not had any luck with my fish wanted to eat this stuff.
I will also agree that it sounds...
I've used this that had a bunch of ramshorn snails in it with no ill affect.
There is also a product call gel tek for internal parasites and I have not had luck with my fish taking it. Although many people have had success with it. :)
