    Green Mandarin? Fish recommendations?

Mandarins are a heart breaking fish and here's why. They are remarkably beautiful and sophisticated in appearance. They are affordable. They are small and charming. But they like to eat pods...and that's the problem friend. Every time I see one, I am reminded of my own learning curve 10...

    Puffer question

Snowflake eel would be cool. The concern with a small tank is that the puffer is a gluttonous eater. I don't think they need a lot of room to swim, but they like to eat, which can cause water quality issues if you are not on top of LARGE water changes in this small body of water. Not saying it...

Have i killed my hammer coral?

Hammers are tough IMHE. Consider the evolution of the organism. Improvements are measured in months, years, and decades. I wouldn't change too much at once to expect a positive change in days.

Advice about my new Naso Tang...

A Naso can go a lot longer than you might think without eating. At this point, I don't see a problem. Consider the perspective of this fish. He's freaked out from being transferred. I've had some fish seem right at home the first day in my tank, eating flakes. Others, like a Tomini Tang...

    Waterchange

Gotta be careful what kind of trash can you keep it in. Lots of plastic cans that leach chemicals into make up water. I like the big brute 50 gallon trash cans. I don't think you have to worry about a time limit otherwise. I change 20% once a month. I make up the water with tap and salt...

    30 gallon FOWLR stock

I'm going to go out on a limb and say yes. In comparison to the Dory tang that gets routinely tossed into a 4 foot tank or the Naso that is in a 6 footer, I don't think you are too far outside the box.

    AquaTricia 40 gal FOWLR

I had a Marine Betta. It was interesting for 5 minutes... No offense, just one of my least favorite fish. Reminds me of a young Oscar. Consider a Potter's Angel. Not easy, but beautiful in a small package.

    120 Long Tank! (Build Thread)

Thanks for the update. Sad to hear that you broke the tank down. Life has that way of shifting priorities. Big tanks are cool, but they tend to take a lot more maintenance than something small, which can be just as gratifying. Definitely keep something small just to get your hands wet every...

    Green Mandarin? Fish recommendations?

Not saying it can't be done, but it will probably waste away within 3 months in your set up. Massive undisturbed live rock pile to keep reproduction going of their food source is needed for one mandarin. You can try and find a tank raised Manadarin and pay the premium but it still requires a...

is there such thing as too many filters

I say go for it. More surface agitation, more carbon, more flow, and more mechanical filtration is good.

Small frontosa colony in 200 gallon tank ?

It's a shame. This forum used to be good. Now it's full of childish apathetic clowns. Way of the world I guess. Sad for the future. Nice tank you have there. I think you have plenty of room for a colony of 8 to 10 fronts. They really don't need a lot of "swimming room" and the max size of...

FOWLR with no water changes in a year?!?

I don't think the tank looks good at all. It's a bunch of coral inserts and he has an algae problem, which would warrant a water change in my mind. The only thing he has accomplished is a pattern of neglect passed off as success.

    Tangs.

There's a double standard out there. I've seen people with incredible 4 feet reef tanks on another very popular site, that slip in big tangs and do not receive any grief for it. But if someone posts a pic with a yellow tang in a 75 that doesn't have the street cred, all heck breaks loose...

    Octopus in a Reef Tank?

I don't think I would let him roam free in the reef tank. I'd get one of those small rectangular critter keepers that kids keep hermit crabs in from the shore (with the slotted plastic top) and keep him in there within the reef tank for the time being. That way, you could open the hatch and feed...
