Why is my hob filter overflowing on the intake?

The same effect is present in canisters, except being under pressure makes the inevitable slowing take a lot longer. There are ways to slow clogging in an HOB/cannister but it takes a minimal understanding of how filter mats work, and the debris load generated in the tank. One thing I'm coming...

Covering the intake with foam Tetra internal filter

Your safest bet is to use sponge that's designed for aquariums. Hand rinse with some tank water and you're golden. Get course sponge to avoid stealing pumping force from your filter.

Covering the intake with foam Tetra internal filter

If the true need for this foam is to keep fry out you'd likely be better off buying some coarse foam and cutting it to fit. Amazon likely has one of the larger collections.

Why is my hob filter overflowing on the intake?

One of the more interesting aspects of fish keeping is that sometimes we have to meatball it. :brows:

Why is my hob filter overflowing on the intake?

I don't currently have much HOB experience, but I'm learning. I have one running on an isolation tank loaded to the brim with medium-sized sintered media only. I use a separate sponge filter that's rated for twice the tanks size as mechanical. This configuration is based on the idea of allowing...

What happened to the aquarium hobby ?

There was a time, about 35 to 40-years ago, when Chicago border wards had family owned LFS's every few blocks. Not all of them were good but most were interesting. Chicago still has the mighty Old Town Aquarium. They've even managed to grow a good bit. OTA now does home maintenance, all manner...

    Lighting question

If I were in your situation I'd likely start by replacing the bulbs with the recommended SKU.

when to change an Aqueon filter cartridge?

If a degree of precision is your goal Joe, test your water and respond to your findings. This approach isn't the easiest because you need an understanding of what the parameters represent and how to correct them if need be. FWIW, I haven't mastered this approach yet, but I have a wife that's...

    Filter Advice for New Tank

Of my myriad experiences I ran a 75g saltwater acrylic with a sump loaded by an overflow with an eheim pump. To make the situation sweeter I ran a skimmer driven by an ozone generator, until my dog started to develop eye infections. As complex as this kit was 25-years ago, it's a toy...

    Filter Advice for New Tank

One of the aspects of fish keeping I'm starting to develop a deep appreciation of is filtration. Depending on the conditions you find yourself in, filtration can exist as unbelievably complex to dirt simple, all driven by your temperament. If I were in your place, as you describe it, I'd go for...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

After reading about your adventures, me figuring out a fussy light switch doesn't seem all that deep. ;)

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Another major advance for my water. I've managed to figure out how to cycle my LED through a pseudo day\night run automatically.

    Python Automatic Water Changer Problem

First 45g water change using the full "drain and fill" functionality of our python today. Simply put what a joy! It took perhaps 15-minutes to complete and so far my wet pets seem fine. The end of the connector that needs to be manipulated says "drain or fill" as an indication of what needs to...

    Information on that moss ball

I was prompted to look around a bit by this thread and noticed that Amazon offers moss ball's from different suppliers. Since we can easily isolate a new batch now I'm going to buy some for the show tank.
