    New to saltwater

    Use deionized water. There may be varying opinions but it gives me peace of mind. If you want to start with a more inexpensive fish, I would suggest chromis. I think they are technically in the damsel family (aren't clownfish closely related too?) but chromis seem more friendly than damsels.

    Thanks Island Hopper! The rock is still good. I actually took it out and put it in a 10 gallon nano. It was just a start for the 55 but fills out the 10 nicely. I'll do the water change and get it going again.
