    the tubing is smooth. The translucent green stuff the Eheim unit came with.

    I was going to say, it may be easier to just mask off the surrounding areas and spray the tank as is instead of breaking it down. Should only need 2 coats.

    I am just using the media the system came with...not my picture...but the 2 media are separated by a filter and then theres 2 more filters on top, the top-most being the charcoal one. Should I look into using something different? by bio-media, you mean the balls and cylinders as posted...

    Youre fine. I would agree with you and prefer using plastidip over a paper or vinyl application. Have you ever used plastidip? Itll look great from the front...and on the back, where applied, a semi-textured, matte black finish...thats completely removable within 2 minutes.
