    Danio's with bloated body.

I have a 10 gallon tank with 6 Zebra Danios, 1 Beta, 1 Striped Raphael Catfish, and two Otos. Three of my 6 Zebras are looking bloated much like the op described. I will try the peas. Do any of the fish on my list have an aversion to salt that would prevent me from using epsom salt? I do a 40%...

    Mal-Nourished

Yeah that pretty much sucked. For everyone who doesn't already know; otos have small spikes along their body and their fins can act as barbs as well. If a hungry fish decides to try to eat one he will not be able to spit it out if it proves too big.

Okay, I can't keep this to myself any longer.

very cool. How long did it take them to set that up?

    hungry hungry hippo! er, betta!

I have a Beta in a 10 gallon with 3 Zebra Danios, 2 Ottos, and 3 Ghost shrimp. They all seem to get along fine, mostly ignoring each other. The Beta just eats whatever I drop in. I don't have Beta-specific food, I just drop in regular flakes for everyone. Has anyone ever had experience with...

    Green Water

I had something similar happen in my new tank recently. I pretty much chalked it up to an algae bloom, did a 70% or so water change, and it has been fine ever since this was about 2 weeks ago.

    new life, new hobby

Hey all, I just move to Colorado and am living with my brother. He has been into aquariums for quite a while (he has a 55g now) and has convinced me to get involved. I started a 10 gallon a little over 3 weeks ok and it seems to be doing pretty well. I had some plant problems but it was AA to...

    My first tank

Thanks for the tips all. I will keep working on it. I am enjoying the tank so far and the cycle is almost done so I can add a couple more fish!

    My first tank

Ok, so my very first tank has been running for 3 weeks now. I did a water change this morning which was preceded by a water test. The test showed no ammonia, .25 ppm of nitrites and 1.0 ppm of nitrates. This is a 10 gallon aquarium. I have 2 15w incandescent lights that are far brighter than...

    my new tank

Did a water change today (about 40%). I refilled the tank and did a water test about 2 hours later. The results seemed pretty good: Ammonia was 0.40 ppm (down from 1.0), Nitrites were about 0.50 ppm, and nitrates about 7.0. I was out visiting some lfs today with my brother and made some changes...

    my new tank

ok, so what I was tyring to say. I would like to try a water change this weekend. I will do another water test after that. Any ideas on how many fish i can put in this tank? I know that the size of the fish matters but assume that none will be bigger than the Beta I am thinking of naming my...

    my new tank

yeah, He is my brother and my roommate, and the one to get me into aquariums... I chose the Zebras and the Beta because they are supposed to be very hearty fish. I am hoping they will be ok during the cycle. Have you ever done a fishless cycle and what was the process? Also I did a water test...
