So, if you were in my situation what fish would you add? :) I will probably get 3 more pearl danios and maybe a couple more marigold swordfish. Maybe some cory's?
Thanks for your thoughts.
Ha! Not a problem. :)
I guess that's what I get for taking fish advice from the person at the lfs. Thanks for the article! I am planning on getting all smaller, peaceful fish if that helps.
I think you may have misunderstood my post. I did not fishless cycle the tank. I tried to, but couldn't get it right and decided to cycle the tank with fish. All of the levels are at 0 (except Nitrate which has remained at 20ppm every check).
Thanks!
Hi all,
I started my 29 gal fish tank with 2 Marigold swordfish and 3 pearl danios on 12/31. I had tried to fishless cycle and gave up. They are all healthy and none have died. I change the water 15-20 percent weekly and they seem very happy. The levels are all at 0 except Nitrate, which...
Ok...I'm about to give up!
New readings are:
pH-6 (I've been busy the past couple of days and hadn't checked pH, so I'm not sure which day it dropped).
Ammonia-2ppm (added 3ml ammonia last night)
Nitrite-5
Nitrate-5
Any thoughts on what I should do?
I just checked the levels and the nitrites are obviously still high.
pH- 7.4
Ammonia-0ppm (did drop from 4ppm in 24 hours)
Nitrite-5+ppm
Nitrate-5ppm
Do I need to do another total water change? Ugh. This is getting frustrating! I really wanted to have it cycled by Christmas for my kids.
Tap pH is 7.6. (I'll check when I get a chance on the others.)
I just checked the readings this morning and am getting frustrated!
pH-7.4
Ammonia- 2.0
Nitrite - over 5ppm again
Nitrate- 5ppm
I'm going to post a pic of the readings in a bit...
Okay. I just did another water change. This time almost 100%.
Here are the readings:
ph- 7.6
Ammonia- 0.50
Nitrite- 0.50
Nitrate- 2or 3ppm, maybe? It was a light orange/yellow color.
I'm going to add some ammonia now.
Okay, I added 1/4 t baking soda last night and this morning ph was 6.8-7.0
I went ahead and did a 80-90% water change because the nitrites are sky high and ammonia is not coming down like it should be...after the water change, nitrite was still off the charts, so I did a 95% water...
