2 or 3 of my Tiger Barbs seem to be losing their bright color. Their black stripes are looking a little grayish, and just not as a black as remember them being. Any one have ideas what's going on? Any suggestions as to what I can do?

I have a 20 gallon tank. Will a piece of drift wood continually keep my pH lower or do the effects of the wood wear off eventually?

My pH has been a steady 8.0 during the cycling process and continues to stay at 8.0 one week after the cycle finished. My question:Is it okay to keep Tiger Barbs and Otocinclus' in a tank with a pH of 8.0?

No, I don't have the Betta yet. I have to set the tank up and cycle it still. I should also mention that this tank setup is for my girlfriend's room, so I need fish that don't require a whole lot of attetion.

The stream of water that pours down from my HOB filter is making a rather noisy splash to some of the water in the tank evaporating. I want to top off the tank in order to fix this problem, but I want to first know if this okay to do considering that I'm cycling my tank?

So I'm in the middle of a cycling my tank using a shrimp rather than pure ammonia. I' ve been doing tests of the water and that's what leads to my next question. My ammonia reading appears to be 0ppm while my nitrite levels is at about 2.0ppm. Is this progress okay? Do I need to add a new shrimp...
