    QT Tank

I read somewhere that if you do not have any space for a QT you could keep decent sized a clean plastic container(similar to size of a small 10l tank, never used with chemicals) as an emergency tank. 1.store a sponge from a sponge filter in your sump filter so that it will be part of your...

    Restarting my Planted Tank

Dwarf hiargrass is awesome for that, even microswords, they dont like gravel, so i just added finer gravel on the top for the roots to take into, works like a charm(even though i got a UGF). Algae means that you have too much of certain nutrients the plants dont need, I'd sugest getting a pleco...

A silly newbie question on zeolite

Thanx guys, I had a look at the bag of salt in the swimming pool section of the hardware store, It says "Non-Iodated Course Salt 25kg" when i spoke to the owner who called the supplier, they said it's just raw rough salt. There was no breakdown of content label or anything. Is there a way to...

A silly newbie question on zeolite

I know from reading around you get iodated salt, table salt that sometimes have additives that make it free running and 100% pure sea salt, not sure of the chemical compositions, but is swimming pool salt not the same as what we use? it may be a cheaper alternative

A silly newbie question on zeolite

With regards to Zeolite, Im not sure how this works or what it is(i know it removes ammonia, but could be wrong), As they say on the bottle i purchased "remove zeolite before adding salt" (which might kill it i believe), but then i heard through googling that to recharge zeolite soak it in a...

    Is 80-82 degrees too warm?

No they have not, but I saw the other day in the pool section of a hardware store that you get non iodated salt in a 25kg bag, this I assume is probably for salt water pools. Would this work in aquariums? I will reduce feedings as of now. With regards to Zeolite, Im not sure how this works or...

My Tank setup, DIY but with lots of reading on this forum

I knnow exactly what you mean by being a hassle, The ugly tubes sticking out(which i hope to cover with plant life), when i used to clean my old tanks I used to get alot of gunk below the UGF plates, hence my need to drain from below the gravel with the corner filter suction. I was even thinking...

    Is 80-82 degrees too warm?

Sorry from my side too Mort, yes it was cycled, but the LFs here told me that i would need it if i run my temps high i might get more activity and there may be more waste produced by the fish. They were the ones who told me to increase the temp to around 85 for ick treatment for 5 days. They had...

Which light makes water look less yellow?

Apparently the tanins are very good for fish and plants, but i wonder of the dimming of the water reduces the light intensity on the plants making them photosinthesise less?
