I started out with a Fluval tank for a Betta and got rid of it... The filter design is such that the intakes is high (and permanent) and some Bettas will use the suction to sleep there near the surface and rip their fins. The design might work for many fish but not Bettas.
I see online PetSmart has a 55 gallon starter kit for 149.00. (Top fin) & the heater is adjustable. I don't know much about it but the price looks good.
I am using a NeoTherm heater (pricey) and a HOB (hang on back - Aquaclear).
Made a lid with acrylic from the hardware store. It's easy to...
It depends. I went and looked at it but no price was listed. The tank itself is usually not expensive but the goodies can add up. The filter they include retails for around 40 bucks at PetSmart. That filter wouldn't be my first choice but it looks OK. The heater they say is "preset". I...

I had purchased shrimp pellets by Wardley and the Corys liked them. When I bought Invertebrate Pellets from Aquatic Arts for my snails the Corys went nuts. They are wild about it and mostly ignore the shrimp pellets.
In olden times we used to put a few drops of vinegar on a found rock and if it fizzed rejected it. If it didn't we rinsed it well and put it in the tank. I still do so and have not had any problems.
