    Need Help with New FOWLR

Thanks Jim. So let me make sure I understand this. 20 x 36 gallons = 720. Does this mean I should have 720 gph flow from my power head(s)? If so, the two heads I purchased are each 750 gph so I think I should either keep only one of those or the other option is to replace them both with the...

    Need Help with New FOWLR

Thanks all for your input on my rock and sand. I have started setting up this tank and I now have a question on the waterflow / current in the tank. I originally ordered two Koralia 750s and after putting one in the tank, I am thinking this may be too much flow for this tank. I will also...

    Limitations of Search

Hi, It seems like many of my search words don't get used in my searches and the search ends up being useless. For example, "tap water." "Tap" was not used because it is too short, so I got "water." This is not true at other forums I have used that have the same look and feel of AA. Can anything...

    Need Help with New FOWLR

Thanks for your response. Would a HOT Protein Skimmer provide enough mechanical filtration or do I need a filter with a pad of some sort? I was looking at the Bak Pak 2 but I was not sure if that would take care of the loose particulate matter. I also saw the "Skilter" but that seems to have...

What about mechanical filtration? Don't I need something to keep the water clean and clear? Thanks Pat

    Starting a 55gal SW FOWLR

Here is where I ordered my LR and LS. It was recommended by another poster in these forums. I spoke on the phone with the owner and he gave me confidence about ordering from them. I should have my order on Thursday or Friday so if you can wait, I will let know how it looks. pat Welcome to...

    Starting a 55gal SW FOWLR

Hi fellow Kentuckians! I am in Lexington and starting a 36 Gal. SW FOWLR. I just ordered my LR and Sand online. You can get much better prices online than from LFS. I will let you know how it looks. I will start a build thread this week once my supplies show up. Good luck on your new tank...

    Need Help with New FOWLR

So, does this all mean rock directly on the glass? Or is there some type of material I should use to protect the glass? I don't really like the idea of eggcrate as it can be sharp and I could see a fish cutting itself on the edges. Maybe something thinner that is softer? Or am I worrying...

I mean large live rock structures. Is your answer still the same? Thanks.

Sorry about that. Since it was not part of my original post, I didn't think about it. I will remember for next time.

Which Goes First, the Rock or the Sand? I am still confused about what to add first to my new tank, the rock or the sand. Is there any consensus on this topic here at AA? I am building a 36 gallon FOWLR in a glass bow front tank. Thanks! Pat

So if I put the LR on the sand, I should not be concerned about crabs and such moving the sand enough to cause rocks to move and crack the glass? Thanks.

Thanks Mike. So should I start with no CUC and add later? And one more question. Do I really place the rock directly on the glass? That makes me really nervous! And then do I just add the sand after base rocks are on place? Thanks again.
