I wouldn't over water change. 20% a week. But you need bacteria in the tank or else your hurting more than helping. Try adding some bueno Aires tetras they make good friends.

for that many fish you need at least a 46 gallon but a 55 gallon would be better

you have to be patient. the more you stress about it the more you stress out the fish

when you feed them try hiding behind something away from tank while watching them. also only feed once a day so they get hungry.
