    Thinking bout shrimp

Shrimp are awesome, but requires some patience! I've had a successful shrimp tank for at least a year now, but I had several unsuccessful experiences before. One thing to keep in mind is that the only real "shrimp safe" fish are oto cats. Also, while RCS are relatively easy, they need to be...

Help! Can't figure out why RCS are dying?

No ammonia, got the nitrates down by half. Last week I had no deaths, until this morning. Checked him out, didn't see any white looking line down his shell. Have a chunk of cuttlebone in there to help with molting. I feed them approximately 5 days out if the week. I skip the day after they get...

Help! Can't figure out why RCS are dying?

So up until this week I didn't have any RCS deaths for quite some time. This week I'm averaging about one death a day! I keep apiece of cuttle fish bone in the tank, Indian almond leaf, mineral balls, lots of plants. Feed almost everyday, except when they get Shrimp Frenzy which takes them a...

    Best buying experience?

Just an update, my order with Aquatic Arts was mostly positive. Unfortunately some of my order was DOA or died shortly after introduction. I believe this was a post office issue. The package was supposed to be delivered Tuesday, never updated the delivery status and didn't actually deliver it...

Will all of my shrimp die

RCS are very sensitive to nitrates and almost anything will be killed with elevated nitrites, above 0 ppm. Also, RCS need a lot of plants to hide and feed off of, especially if there are fish in the tank as well! Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

Best way to remove tough algae

That's a really good idea and safer to use around the shrimp in my tank! I'm always afraid I'm crushing one with the long handle sponge brush! Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

Best way to remove tough algae

I've got some really stubborn green algae on my glass where it meets the gravel. My usual glass scrub pad with the handle doesn't really get to it, tooth brush not stiff enough! Does anyone use anything else to remove really tough algae? Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Best buying experience?

So I placed an order with Aquatic Arts Wednesday afternoon but still haven't seen any email about shipping yet. I chose the most expensive shipping so I kinda thought they would've shipped already, what do you think! Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

How often do I feed my RCS

They are scavengers, but will not thrive without a steady food source. They will eat any leftover fish food, veggies that are blanched, algae wafers, etc. However, as someone who used to keep Endler's together with shrimp, be very aware of how much the fish are eating vs the shrimp. There are...

    Adding substrate to existing tank?

So maybe adding it in small sections would be best? I've hit a lot if shrimp and plants in the tank, it's 30g. Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Adding substrate to existing tank?

I was just thinking of a black, plant friendly substrate. Like I said I know it won't look awesome, but I don't want to remove substrate. I was concerned covering the older substrate would mess up the nitrate/nitrite cycle. I guess because the tank is a few years old that it's okay? Sent from...

Breeding RCS. How many do I need

Absolutely, they'll start going crazy given the opportunity. If it's a shrimp only tank than even more so! Sent from my iPhone using Aquarium Advice

    Adding substrate to existing tank?

So I would like to add a black substrate to my tank, but have natural colored gravel stone there currently, about 3 years. I never did the recommended 2-3 inches. Only about inch and a half. I know it won't look awesome but could I add a black substrate over top the old gravel without throwing...
