    Question about powerhead placement

I dont mean to hijack the thread, but I have a similar situation where it looks like I will need 4 powerheads. How would this pump/spraybar situation work. I couldn't find a pump that had one. Are there ones that are recommended and can it be explained how they connect? Thanks

    Lighting for a 180g

As soon as my freshwater fish are sold, the startup will begin. Hopefully in the next month. I have a guy I know buying almost all of my freshwater fish, but he can't do that til Feb. 1. Soon after that I can begin the salt. I will keep you updated with pics.

    Lighting for a 180g

Roka, Now that you mention it. I wasn't even factoring in the braces. I was just thinking "72 inches, that's 36x2". I think you are right that the 2 36s wont work. The MH 72" I linked to at the beginning might be the way to go. It is in my budget and the more I look at other people's tanks, the...

    Lighting for a 180g

I asked my wife and she doesnt think she has the skills to deal with drilling and what not. I may just have to go back to the legs. Seems much easier and less complicated. Edited to add: What about 2 of these: http://www.aquacave.com/detail.aspx?ID=976 or these...

    Lighting for a 180g

Maybe I'm just not understanding the hanging. Is it something that's easy to do? I think I mentioned early that I have zero handyman skills so if its something easy to do, I guess I will consider it. I think I am overcomplicating things and that may be my problem.

    Lighting for a 180g

Unless I was missing something in the explanations on that site, I didnt see any that would sit on eggcrate or the braces. I'll have to keep looking. I just dont know where my tank is going yet. I also dont know if my move will be permanent or just a few years and I'd rather not have to buy a...

    Lighting for a 180g

I think I would have a problem with that artisticallty as well. Not sure about what type of corals, probably something of the easy variety until I really get the hang of things. The only issue I have with the links you sent me is the hanging aspect. I'd really rather have it set up as a hood or...

    Lighting for a 180g

What about doing a 48 and 24? I know it might create an imbalance, but drsfostersandsmith has a 48" 432w and a 96w 24" for a total of 528w which is more than 2 36" 156w which equals 312w. How does that sound? dskidmore, Thanks for the advice. I have zero mechanical ability. DIYs give me...

    Lighting for a 180g

I didn't know if I could get by with a T5. From what I've read (or misread I guess), the MH was required for all corals. I would much rather spend less and get a good T5 so this is good stuff to know. Thanks!

Need new help, wife nixes initial plan

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. Not sure where I want to go with corals yet. My goal is too pick the fish and inverts first (either reef safe or mostly reef safe) and then figure out what corals I want with them.

    Conspecific

This is going to sound stupid, but what does conspecific mean? If a fish is peaceful, except with conspecific, does that mean they cant be housed with another of its exact type? For example a yellow goby. Can it be kept with other gobies, just not yellow or no other gobies? Thanks

    Lighting for a 180g

Since I'll be new, I probably wont be buying any expensive or high requirement corals. I do plan on having a reef with relatively easy corals. Can some suggest very good MH lighting? I checked at drsfosterandsmith and it seemed like 900 dollars is what I should expect to pay. This is the one I...

Need new help, wife nixes initial plan

Thanks, I am one of those people who has to map out and draw everything before I do it. I can't go in to things without a game plan. I have to learn how to do that. That's why I ask livestock questions and equipment questions before I even start. As soon as I sell the last of my freshwater fish...

Need new help, wife nixes initial plan

I posted this in my local forum, but it didnt get much traction there. Hope I can get some good help here. After showing my wife my fish ideas and showing her some options, she decided that we should have a reef tank. She thinks the smaller fish are "cuter". Since she shares in the tank work I...
