I found this beautiful driftwood, it is actually a root and step of a chopped plant which still had few small leaflets. So I got this home and now boiling before I let it dry fully.
Are there any risks of keeping such a wood in my established tank?
I never had success with platies till now, but this time I was quite optimistic as I did a full fishless cycling and the tried to provide the best I could do.. but it did not help :(
Here is the photo of the platy. I dont know if Gaurami was the reason for the platy to be sick. But now that it is sick I saw the gauramies nipping at the sick platies fins and tails :( unfortunately I do not have any extra tank where I can keep the platy :( not sure what to do
At present I do not have any pics, will upload once I am back home.
So the two platies that I am saying are sick have different behaviour,
Platy-1: Have clamped fins, but very active, feeding on flakes as well as sinking shrimp pellets that I feed for the pandas. Once in a while floats at the...
Why are my micky mouse platies dull? Their fins are clamped and they are sitting on the floor of the tank :(
Water parameters all good,
Ammonia - 0
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 10~20
pH - 7.6
Temperature - 77 - 79
All other fishes seem to be doing good except these two. What can i do?
I would suspect it is depressed because of water quality, since it is just a 4 gallon, if you are not doing daily water changes the water will get poisoned by ammonia/nitrites very quickly.
I dont think you need to replace it every 4 weeks :) You can wash it using tank water when you see that there is lot of accumulation and the water is not passing through it.
The pH of the tank going to 6 is normal during the cycling process as lots of acidic waste is produced by the bacteria. Like you already told, get some crushed corals, get a small filter bag (You should find it in FS) add the corals after washing and that should keep your pH stable. Also if you...
pH of 6 will actually stall or slower the process extremely. I had got into similar issue and then I placed a cup of crushed coral that is keeping my pH stable and the cycle completed. I had used tetra safestart to start my cycle and I finished by cycle in 3 weeks.
Ammonia increase to 0.25? I guess that should never happen, if it is happening then probably your cycle is not complete or something went wrong killing all the beneficial bacteria.
Ok I actually had to replace the aragonite sand back with my regular black gravel because my pH was too high for any fish I guess and since I want to have a betta in it, I thought I will not take risk.
