I have a 220gal 6' long tank with a marineland 400 hob and a custom cannister running 1321gph. Building a 3d background with all my stuff hidden for a clean look but I'm worried about getting dead spots. Any suggestions would be appreciated
This thread really intrigues me. I am building a 3d background and have a fear of having dead spots. I hope there is more conversation about the effects of powerheads

You added too many fish for your bb colony to keep up with. It takes a little time for the colony to get established. In that small of a tank you added to much waste too fast. Use an ammonia remover (fish will make enough to keep the colony alive) and keep doing 25-50% water change daily and...
Add 2 or 3 more. Your school is too small and that is part of the cause. Sometimes their chasing is like our kids playing tag so as long as there is no nipping and the little ones can still eat and don't show any signs of stress, a full school should fix it

I have a 250g and all my parameters have been fine for over 6 months. I'm building my own canister filter and was hoping to leave it out

Where do you stand on chemical filtration? I had carbon leach ammonia back into the tank and have now all but eliminated it from my system. Do I need to keep it or find a replacement like purigen or can I effectively run a system without it?

Also curious about how people feel about chemical filtration. I've all but eliminated it from my system (carbon can leach ammonia back into the water). Do I need to use it at all or should I just get something different (heard of purigen but never used it)

Thanks. I actually bought a syncra 5. I needed 1300+ gph. Found it on thewatergardener.com for $50 chapter than every other site. When I get done I'll post some pictures.

Don't forget you can buy an adapter that well allow you to plug in your current air pump in via the cigarette lighter

Ever dust your house? Even though it is clean after dusting you do inadvertently send some dust in the air. Same concept applies here if you do a lot of gravel vac
