Red dots under java fern leaves

Thanks for the quick response. It has put my mind at rest, if it wasn't spores the whole plant would have been toast... :-o

Red dots under java fern leaves

I had sort of guessed that, but I wasn't expecting 30 or so spores on one leaf!! :-)

Red dots under java fern leaves

Have a java fern that is thriving in my tank. It seems to love the conditions and is taking over one end of my tank. Today I decided to look at trimming it back before my tank is overrun with the stuff. When I turned over the driftwood it is firmly anchored to just less than half it's leaves...

    Help with a plant ID

Thanks for moving the thread. I realised it was in the wrong forum after I created it but I didn't know how to get it moved to the correct one. Thanks again, Matt

    Help with a plant ID

Thanks for the replies. Having now read lots of online reference on Anubias I have decided it is a Nana. I'm still waiting for the flower to open, but the tip is getting whiter each day. Did you spot the photogenic Tiger Barb on photo 3? He was just posing for the camera!

    Help with a plant ID

Hi all I've got a plant that is about 7" across and 3" or so high. I've been reading roydooms guide, and I think it looks like a Anubias Nana but I'm not sure. Recently it's grown some extra roots and is even trying to flower! Here is a picture or two... Thanks in advance for any...

    Poorly tiger barb

It's with sadness I have to report it has just pass away... I guessed in the end that it was ill before it got stuck to the intake. Absolutely no outward signs of illness though. No nipped fins, a good size compared to the rest of the shoal, full of it's usual colour (green TB). water parameters...

    Can anyone help?

    Poorly tiger barb

The breeding net is to stop it getting sucked back to the intake again, as when I freed it originally it floated around the tank current and back to the intake.

    Poorly tiger barb

Hi all, Until this evening I have run a very trouble free 30g tank with 10 assorted tiger barbs and 1 BN Plec. Around 3 hours ago I found 1 tiger barb stuck up to the intake of my filter which has a fine plastic grill to stop things getting sucked in. I separated it in a breeding net as there...

    Water problems......

Spot on. 20% - 25% once a week should be ok from now on, just keep doing the tests to be sure that it doesn't increase above 40. :)

    Water problems......

That's good news, what was the nitrate result?

    Water problems......

It takes up to 3 hours for the new water to completely mix at which point you can retest. On the whole, assistants at aquatics shops give you the easy answer, easy for them and/or easy for you, but not always the best/correct answer. (obviously this is not the same for ALL assistants and all...

    Water problems......

I'd leave it another hour then retest the nitrate (that test is the hardest to do - you really need to shake the cr@p out of the 2nd bottle for at least 30 seconds before you add the 2nd drops or the test will very inaccurate). Post that result and we'll decide on what % to change then.
