    Air pump loud buzzing

I agree that they're designed to vibrate, they need to in order to pump the air. But this "vibration" isn't the normal near silent humming, this is a loud buzzing that sounds like someone shoved an electric razor against the inside of the plastic shell. It didn't matter what the pump was on...

    Air pump loud buzzing

I've had a whisper 40 air pump powering a sponge filter in my 29 gallon tank for a little over a year now. I'm unsure of what causes it, but after ~6 months it developed a sometimes-there loud vibration/buzzing noise. If i touch it with my foot or press down on it, it'll stop for 10-30 seconds...

What to do with excess fry

I'm not a fan of angels (no offense!) and I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to eat the full grown endlers. I'm not against nature taking its course either, but I'm not big on "centerpiece" (bigger) fish. My plans were originally to have some endlers roaming around, some long fin zebras in...

What to do with excess fry

2 months ago or so I bought 2 female and 1 male endlers from my LFS (who also gave me 2 fry for free) to do in-tank cycling. 4 days after getting them I suddenly had 10 fry swimming along the bottom. Fast forward another month I now have well over 25 fish of varying ages in my 29 gallon tank...

What is the best filter you've ever used?

The older models of the emperor (I have an old 280 still in use, thing runs great even after sitting in storage for 8 years) did have flow control. Apparently sometime in the latter 2000s they took it out to help reduce prices/costs. I really like my emperor, it's solidly built and does a good...

    Endlers

Not sure it's a congratulatory thing :P I have a bunch now in a tank that's probably not really cycled. Apparently 3 endlers in a 29 gallon tank isn't really enough to start producing much ammonia, so they might help with that. I'm more worried about what to do with them eventually and how...

    pH is slowly rising

I use RODI water that I mix with two seachem products, and the TDS before the mixing is 0, so I don't think it's anything in the water itself. I also mixed a bucket of water and let it sit for 2 days and it still measured the same as before the wait. It's not really that much trouble tbh. I...

    Thinking about buying Ammonia detector

This is a slightly older thread and has kind of moved on, but I wanted to clear some things up that I'm fairly sure of (though a true chemist would know better). The seachem alert claims to read straight ammonia, whereas the API test measures ammonia AND its conjugate acid, ammonium. The...

    Endlers

I was surprised my slowly-going-saltwater-only LFS had endlers when I stopped by. They charged $2.99 for a male/female pair, and they were of the "lime green" looking variety. Added them as my starter fish for my 29 gallon and 4 days later there were already ~10 fry swimming around.

    pH is slowly rising

It did creep up, it gets up to about 8 and holds steady from what I can see. The tank is still cycling so I've been doing small water changes every other day and adding back ~7 pH water (mixed from RO and seachem buffers). This has a temporary, small impact before it goes back up the next day...

    pH is slowly rising

Hello all, I'm wondering if someone out there might give me some insight as to why my pH seems to steadily increase over time. I'm using RODI water and mixing in seachem's equalibrium and alkaline/acid buffers to reach a pH of ~7, kH ~6dH, and GH ~8dH. I thought it might be the chemicals...

    pH Assistance

How high is high? My local water is regularly > 9pH after gassing off. How high is the pH after sitting for 24-48 hours? How are you adding the chemicals to the water for the water changes? I would take a cup of water and let it sit for 24-48 hours and test the pH and see what it is at that...

    Petco Dollar Sale Question

Free filter is neat, even if it is a cheapo garbage one (which I'm assuming it is). Sorely tempted to go look (the petco is about 3 blocks from my house) for a 40B as I think that's my ideal tank size for a freshwater community, but I just finished setting up my old 29g high and adding fish last...

    Prime, dropper style

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but does anyone know where I can get the prime bottles that are dispensed as drops? Way back when I had a small bottle of prime that would allow me to put in one drop per gallon. The bottle worked great as I use 5 gallon buckets for fish water...

    Sponge filter

That 10x number (as far as I know) refers to HOB and cannister filters. You want the tank water cycled through the filters 10x an hour. I would suggest a HOB and supplemental sponge filter, though it's possible you could get away with a sponge filter alone (my fish store has a big one in every...
