best bristle worm trap to save the clams

thanks for the insult and useless comment I really did want input on a good bristleworm trap or technique, that is why I posted. Whats the harm in catching some worms? I thought it would be like asking for tips on aptasia, or ick, but it has really brought out the ugly in people. Not everyone...

best bristle worm trap to save the clams

The 1st clam to die was a brilliant grade 4 maxima I had for 14months, the second was a 2 inch derasa. Come to think of it, the first casualties were 2x .5inch maximas that I put high up on the rocks for a week. I just assumed large emerald crabs got them. After QTing the survivors, 2 have...

best bristle worm trap to save the clams

I have considered that, but those **** worms are deep in the LR too. I can't nuke the LR because fist there are coral & good living things on it & 2nd because it is the next most expensive thing after the tank-stand-canopy setup. It would be cheaper to sell the clams.

The Ideal Tank II - sand or barebottom

Kurt, the sandbed mat would only come out for special guests (they know who they are), as strips along the front and sides if the tank & always sparkling white clean fine sand.Just for looks, I would also switch my day to day 10k grow lighs to 20k to bring out the colors.I agree with you gph of...

The Ideal Tank II - sand or barebottom

Waste processing takes 4inches or deeper, so 2-3 is not advisable. 1 inch is just for looks. I heard of a mat of 1inch sand that is glued into place & rolled onto the bottom for looks, removed to clean up & doesn't whirl round. Anyone tried it?As for bristleworms, of course they are not the...

The Ideal Tank II - sand or barebottom

In the planning of a large upgrade, I am cannot decide on using a 1inch or 4inch sandbed, or going barebottom in the display tank. I am likely getting another acrylic tank and dont want to worry about scratches. I have mainly SPS that cannot get enough flow, and I have sandstorms. I dont care...

best bristle worm trap to save the clams

bristle worms, fireworms, when in doubt throw it out I know there is controversy regarding bristle worms. But, Im telling you the clam was fine one day, then dead and having worms in it the next. I already have sand sifting stars, a sea cucumber and dozens of snails/crabs that clean up fine...

best bristle worm trap to save the clams

Yesterday my oldest maxima clam looked funny, its siphon was gaping open, mantle retracted and not reactive to tapping - it was dead. I took it out, dissected it and found 3x 2 inch bristle worms eating away inside. This clam was vibrantly health previously and doubled in size since I got her...

    The ideal tank

what are you going to put in it? Hey Fireworks, it sounds like you are going to drop some serious $$$ on this tank. I am really excited for you. What are you going to put in it - LPS reef, SPS, biotope? I am looking to upgrade too & love the livestock that I have, but dont want to have a...

To grow or not to grow OGO

I have several tangs that beat ich, I believe, because I fed them a clip of ogo a day. I am now considering culturing ogo myself, in an attempt to always have some available, decrease weekly driving to the LFS, and save some $$$; gas & ogo are expensive & I cant spend less than $50 a visit - I...

    pH too hard to control

making some progress I recalibrated all 3 pH probes (pinpoint) with fresh packets & found the one in the main display was always 0.2 lower than the other 2 in the stand so im replacing it (only 6 months old). I made an aeration trough, 1' long tray that the effulent can sit in before getting...

    Pump for UV sterilizer

Mini-Jet MN606 82–153gph I have only had the turbo twist 6x (18W) & the current gamma (15w) & I used this pump with both. It is made by the same people that make maxi-jet. This pump is small and has a switch to inc flow from 82 to 153 gph, so no flow meter is needed. It is also cheap, costs...
