It`s a small tank so not a big deal but metal hallide i was running on a 90 gallon was sucking back the power roughly around $25 a month (i think)

African cichlids are nice and they will breed but after a while you have multiple generations crossbreeding and its messy

Looks good. I just added some Java Moss to mine. It hasn't started growing in yet but I have high hopes for it. Maybe you should try some moss too?

This doesn't answer your question but may be an alternative to glass on all sides. I made a large tank, 2' tall, many years ago out of glass and wood (if you can beleive that). I don't know what float glass is, I just got it locally from a store and then cut to size with a glass cutter...
