I have the typical green hairy algae on the glass

I am not sure why I am having prolonged algae outbreak in my 29gallon biocube. The temp is 80 degrees, lighting is on 10:30am - 9pm I want reduce that time but when I do my star polyps close. I am also using RO water. Is the light the problem

I also have other green star polyp that is green that was in the tank before this new piece

I use the standard lights in a biocube and the polyps are about 15inches from light

I went back to LFS and the rock try sold me from is brown as well. I bought it a day after it came off truck from wholesaler
