HELPPP! I can't seem to bring down my ammonia levels. right now it's at 8.0ppm. I've used different kits and the water still isn't affected. Can anyone help me?

well I just put the fish in there Monday night. had the tank up and running since Friday. there were no fish so the ammonia level was fine. temp between 78-80F. tested the nitrite and nitrate levels on Monday and they were fine. have plants in there to help with the nitrite and nitrate levels

I just bought a red parrot cichlid and black convict cichlid on Monday. they have been doing alot of hiding but haven't showed any interest in eating. I have put food in their tank twice a day around the same time each day. wat is wrong? please help?
not Australian. from baltimore. starting with my first fish tank ever. bought it Friday 7/26. treated the water and have been running the filter/heater since late Friday night. but haven't tested the temp or pH level. should I do that before I purchase my cichlids later today? I need to know.
