Hi there - I have a 16 gallon nano tank. Just checking if I need a heater? It's my sons bed room. House stays pretty normal temperature year around.

I've noticed large patches of what looks like brown hair some of which is stringy on my sand bed. I have tried to scoop out yet. Any ideas?

Oh yeah - it's the swing arm hydrometer. I guess should look at another measuring device? I buy NaturalSea (I think that's the name) as it's premixed and supposed to have all the best trace element?

If I replace the same amount of water that I take out during water changes shouldn't my salinity stay the same? Mine seems to have risen.

I have a bio cube 16 with lights on a timer to simulate morning noon and evening. Getting a bit of algae on the glass. Hoping snails will help but any other suggestions?

Can you mix shrimp? I was looking to get a small clean up crew that that a peppermint shrimp included. I already have a coral banded shrimp and didnt know if they'd fight?

Is it best to add live rock to tank and if so are you supposed to soak it? Or my son was researching and thought about dry rock which I guess has been sitting out and less likely to have hitch hikers. Thanks

Any suggestions for best way to clean and aquarium glass? Magnet cleaner? Scrubber? I just didn't want to use anything that might introduce foreign bodies to the tank. Thanks!

Sorry if this is a dumb question but where do I actually put the activated carbon? Just in with the current filter?

Still cloudy I was hoping the tank would have cleared up by now since it's only a biocube 16. Gonna drive and get some water from LFS this weekend and do a water change. Any recs on amount? 15 or 25%? :banghead: ** And it's not awful just not super clear like you'd want.

Hi guys / gals - If I live a long way from a marine store is getting seal/filtered water at the grocery store ok to use. Trying to not use TAP water.

Yep check ammonia before I did anything with the shrimp. It was 0ppm. I'm just going to let it keep running and seeing if it clears itself up. I thought about a water change but didn't want to stir up any other things that might be going? Shrimps just chilling on the live rock.
