Pool filter sand vs Caribsea moonlight

I have a 23 gallon L tank that has 2/3 gravel, 1/3 Caribsea Moonlight sand. I have a new batch of Black Sail corys in a 10G QT with pool filter sand on the bottom. I plan to enlarge the sanded portion of the display tank for when I add the corys, but I now have concerns about both sands. The...

    Assassin snail question

Thanks for the very informative video. If you buy just one (to avoid a population problem), might it be a pregnant female that will then lay fertilized eggs, resulting in population issues, or are the eggs fertilized after being laid?

    Assassin snail question

I have a pond snail infestation, presumably from some plants I'd purchased 5-6 weeks back. I pick them out several at a time when I see them, but there's no end to the supply. I was considering getting an assassin snail or two. A few questions: 1) I have four fully-grown nerites in the tank...

Magnum 250 filter Q: diatomaceous earth vs micron filter

Just ordered a new Marineland H.O.T. Magnum 250 off of eBay to use for water polishing. I plan to use it to clean up a modest algae bloom--i.e., I already have a regular HOB filter, and the 250 is going into place only when needed to do some cleanup, not as a primary filter. I have the micron...

    Twitchy cardinal tetra

I have one tetra that is floating in the same spot near the gravel and twitching. I don't see any spots on him. Ammonia and nitrites are 0; nitrates are 5. Here he is: All of the other fish (cardinal tetras only) are together in a school.
