is Aluminum unsafe for saltwater fish?

Another thing, plywood, especially marine plywood is a great material if it is coated with a 2 part epoxy paint. If the paint will be exposed to the contents of the tank, make sure it has a NSF rating for potable water, (safe for human consumption, the water that is).

is Aluminum unsafe for saltwater fish?

I couldn't tell from your post what exactly you are wanting to use the aluminum for. But, there are many metals and alloys that corrode very quickly when exposed to salts of any kind, aluminum especially. For example, rarly is aluminum used on salt water fishing boats, stainless steel fittings...

    Acrylic Or Glass??

Here is one option you may have. I have never chose to own a acrylic tank because of the scratch issue. But, it sure does have some advantages over glass. They both actually have their own plus and minuses. I'm building a 115 gallon at the present and I chose to go with a different kind of...

    please help!!!!!

Menagerie is right on, it doesn't sound like you even had a stable cycle before fish were added to me, not a critical mistake, but one that can be corrected. There is no way beneficial bacteria will colonize without the proper input, hence fish waste, ie ammonia. For a 30 gallon, it almost...

    Ancistrus loves CO2??

I'm not sure if this is a explanation or not. Here in Central Florida we have artesian springs that flow from the aquifer, some at the rate of 500k gallons a min. A few of these create small rivers that we canoe and enjoy the constant temps all year round. Pleco's have found their way into...

    Freshwater rocks.

QTOFFER hit it right on. Not sure if a overnight dip with a rock will give a accurate reading or not. Limestone probably won't effect the PH overnight in a rock form vs. powder, but it will over time.

    DIY 115Gal Tank Build Updates

Thanks Billy! It was alot of fun getting the water flowing and so far, so good on that part. I quess the next step will be finishing the backdrop with the granite. There may possibly be another feature of some kind as there is lots of room in the tank left. I'm up for entertaining any ideas...

    DIY 115Gal Tank Build Updates

Waterfall Experiment Part 2 Up And Running Got the waterfall feature of the vivarium up and running last night and will be testing it over the next couple of days. I got the splashige down to about zero now, still a little tweaking to do to make it a hair more quiet. So far the water and fog...

    well, that was a bust.

It should be safe, I've never heard of a mildew retardant in the grout, only in the caulk and silicone for use in high moisture areas. It would be worth making sure though.

just finished a concrete back ground for a 10 gallon

I think it looks great! I've never been a big fan of store bought backgrounds or just painting the back with black spraypaint, which I've done several times early on. A nice touch you added to the tank, nice goin'.
