    Nicaraguans in the 60

They are too fast for him. At this size they can co-habitate, the Nicos will eat him before too long after they get bigger. I should have a larger tank by then

Here are some more pics- tried to get a few fry, but they move quickly!

    Nicaraguans in the 60

Eight fry survived the last batch. The male killed the female in a fit one day, and took her fins and tail before I could do a thing. I traded him for a Hammer's Cobalt Blue lobster and, with the Pleco, makes ten inhabitants in the tank. The eight are just large enough to cast a decent shadow on...

They are all fat and happy! Mom and Dad have taken to splitting the group and each takes a bunch and then they join up again. These guys are keeping me busy!

The small cloud of fry has now expanded to cover a good third of the length of the tank. Mom and Dad are SO doting! It is just them and the Pleco. The Pleco hides behind the intake tube for the Emperor 350 on the back. They annoy him and he waits until they are focused on something else and moves.

Thank you! I have been at this for over 30 years, and I still love it. This is my first time with this cichlid. I have a fondness for the Texas but like to explore, which makes me usually run several tanks. Looking for an acrylic tank over 100G for my next batch of Texas.

I have been feeding them flake since the fry hatched. I grind a little for the fry and the parents do the same! The parenting behavior is awesome. If Mami needs a break she nudges Papi away, or she has him watch them as she does a quick patrol of the tank for any hazards to the fry. Amazing!

    Lobster Fail!! Help please!

Thank you for the information. I am going to wait until this batch of fry grows to some size and then get another Cray. I really like the variety of coloration on them, as I had a Cobalt Blue in the last incarnation of the 60. Awesome tank mates!

Hi MBF! My best estimate ( after pics and magnifying glasses) is between 40 and 50 fry. Since it is just the family and the Pleco now, I expect to see quite a few grow to some size. The proud parents are taking them around the tank now, and I am so happy to see the cloud of fish!

    Lobster Fail!! Help please!

Thank you all for the rapid responses. The Ghost has shuffled off this mortal coil. I just checked his cave again and he was still on his back and no movement. I will leave the tank as is with current residents and get that kit to check the water. Thank you again!

    Lobster Fail!! Help please!

It is a 60G freshwater. Tank mates are a mated pair of hypsophrys nicaraguensis that have their fourth brood. The only other inhabitant is a Pleco. Temp maintained at 81 degrees F by Fluval in tank. Not sure about Ph. Lots of Anachris growing and floating. Emperor 350 on back, and a powerhead...

    Lobster Fail!! Help please!

Recently added a Ghost White Lobster to my 60G and he was great until this morning. I did not see him and got my mini mag-lite and found him upside down in his cave. He moved a bit, so I am not sure if this is normal or not. He did not look like the cichlids got to him, as I moved the rock...

There be FRY! Please join me in welcoming the fourth brood to the happy couple. This will be their first brood w/o other cichlids in the tank, so I am eager to see them grow. Dad has on his family colors now and looks like Mami!
