Well this is day 3 of using seachem's stability and my parameters are as follows.
-temp 79.4
-ammonia 0ppm
-nitrite 0ppm
-nitrate 80 pm
-Ph 8.0
-sg 1.025
I have done a 5 gallon water change and will pretest tonight. Maybe by Monday or Tuesday I can start stocking. My first three corals are going...
I have begun adding seachem's stability to my tank after I added the live rock. The stability will help my tank cycle faster. After I bought it from my lfs I came home and done research on it and from all of the people on different forums that have used it they say it really works and no one has...
Well I went to my lfs today. I was just planning on window shopping until I seen there live rock. Long story short I bought a 30 pound piece that looked really great. I also let them talk me into trying out seachem's stability to cycle my tank faster. Here are a few pics of the live rock I...
Hey spoonman I found a great deal on a light system for my tank. Its a 150w metal halide with 2 t5 blue actinic and 4 moon lights for 120 bucks. You can check it out on my thread called "My First Reef Tank"
I done another test tonight and here are the results
-temp 78.6
-ammonia .25ppm
-nitrite 5.0ppm
-nitrate 80ppm
-sg 1.025
I am really worried about my nitrates. Should they be this high or should I be concerned about them at this point.
@Mrc8858 that's a really good deal. I wish I could find deals around Atlanta for that price usually when full setups are that cheap here they are more trouble then they are worth.
No you will have to go to a fish store that specialize in saltwater tanks and fish or you can order the stuff online and hope you can get free shipping. Alot of stores online offer free shipping if you buy a large amount.
Hi Aquaboi I'm building a 29 gallon myself. This was my first reef but this is what I done. First I added my saltwater and let it come up to temp (around 77 to 78 degrees), then I added my rock which is a mix between dry base and live rock. Then I added my live sand. When I added my sand I...
@joeball2007 I was like you the only thing I had was the tank and the whisper 20 filter. I got my stuff from a local fish store and it cost me just alittle over 500.00. I did however get a good deal on my light and 200 gallons of salt. The light was 120.00 and the box of salt was 49.00. I could...
I bought a pound of live rock rubble that had decent coralline on so it will seed my base rock and to my surprise when I pulled the rock out of the bag I found three tiny hermit crabs on some of the rock. I hope they survive the cycle but I'm not sure they will because they sure are tiny.
OK thanks for the input. I also have a new question. What will the diatom bloom look like? I know cyano algae looks like I had it once in my saltwater fish only tank but I have never seen a diatom bloom.
I done another test tonight and the results are as follows
-temp 77.9
-ammonia .50ppm
-nitrite off the scale(scale goes to 5.0)
-nitrate 40ppm
-sg 1.025
Is it normal for the nitrite to be so high during the cycle. Also how often should I test during the cycle.
@Daniel fishy I am running a whisper 20 filter with purigen, chemi pure, and filter floss right now. I am going to upgrade the filter to one alittle larger then the tank size.
@dwilliams I will be stocking it with soft and lips coral to start off with then later on when the tank is established I...
