I fully expect the poop to show up more easily on white sand than other substrates. In my tank, it shows up much more near the spray bar end than at the intake end, and so my hypothesis was that I need to move the water around more ... i.e., additional filter or power head. I just don't know...
Hello,
I have a 90G tank that’s been set up for 4-5 months now. I have several plants and the following fish in it:
9 Rainbows (8 are medium size, one is larger, but none are at their max size yet)
1 German Blue Ram
3 Hightail Swordfish
3 Pearl Gourami
2 Otocinclus
4 Amano Shrimp
5 Nerite...
Hi,
Thanks for all responses so far!
My situation:
- I've just set up a new 20G tank (1 week old now) and have planted several plants there. The tank is currently cycling and I've added Ammonia from Ace Hardware to get the cycling moving. At the same time, the plants are getting acclimatized...
Hello everyone,
I currently have a 10G Goldfish tank and I am setting up two new tanks:
- 20G tank that will eventually be my quarantine tank
- 90G tank that will sit in my living room for our enjoyment. This will be a planted freshwater tank with beautiful fish (that I am yet to decide on)
I...
And... I am also back to thinking about fertilizers and CO2. Earlier in this thread, I've received recommendations on:
1. That I should get CO2 setup
2. That I could get Seachem Excel as a subsitute for CO2
3. That I should use fertilizers for substrate and water column
I am going with sand as...
So my tank is delayed by a week. The shop I got it from got the tank and the stand, but the stand's top front corners are damaged. So I've asked them to get it changed and that takes another week
However, in that time, I've bought some plants online and they arrive Tue or Wed this week. To...
Thank you everyone!
I am not graduating to thinking about how I'll design my tank. With the plants, I'll need driftwood. Any considerations between Malaysian driftwood, spiderwood and Manzanita? Also, any good sources to buy them?
I read in an Amazon review for "Hydor ETH 300 In-Line External Aquarium Heater, 300w" that any inline product slows the flow of water through the filter. I love the idea of inline heater to keep the 2 heaters out of my tank, but will the Eheim 2217 then be sufficient for my 90G tank if I attach...
So you can vacuum sand? I have the goldfish tank with pebbles and when I vacuum, the pebbles get sucked into the vacuum - of course, they are large, so its easy to shake them off. But with small sand particles, can you still vacuum with ease?
Just researched eco-complete. Boy, its gonna be expensive to get a 2-inch layer in a 90g tank! I heard I can also use dirt but I fear that that may get messy. Given that the eco-complete is inert, could I instead use a substrate of sand? I read (and saw on youtube videos) that using Swimming...
1) So it sounds like Fluval or Eheim are the choice here? Should I just pick between the Fluval 406 and Eheim Classic 2217 .. or are there other models I should think of?
6) Any recommendations on brand of eco substrate? And how much to get? Is it ok to have substrate and then sand on top (for...
Some really good insights here - thanks everyone!
Some followups: (I'll use the numbering scheme from my original post for ease of tracking)
1) Sump/wet dry filter: I checked them out on Amazon, and boy, these are expensive (run in the 400-500 bucks range!). I appreciate the idea, but I think...
Hi everyone,
I've had a 10G goldfish tank for a few months and loved taking care of them! I've been loving this hobby so much that I have just placed an order for a 90G tank that will arrive next weekend! Yippie!
I intend to keep freshwater fish. In some years, I'd like to graduate to a...
