    Richmond, VA Fish Stores

I probably should have updated this. I liked Skoolz at first. I was still really new to fishkeeping, and one of the employees recommended a jewel cichlid, who nearly murdered our tiger oscar, Frank. We returned the jewel for store credit and got a small school of pearl danios instead, which had...

i think my baby guppy has ick

Here's a picture of my tiger oscar when he had ich recently. He was stressed out from having his fins destroyed by a very agressive fish, making him more susceptible to it. Ich lives in most aquaria, but only causes outbreaks when a fish is stressed enough to serve as a good host for the...

i think my baby guppy has ick

Ich usually starts in the gills, where you can't see it. The fish may seem a bit frantic and rub itself on rocks and decorations since its gills are itchy. When it's full-blown ich, it will look like little grains of salt on the body of the fish, where the parasites are hatching out of the skin...

    Richmond, VA Fish Stores

That's ok. I haven't been to any of the stores you listed in Midlothian. There's just something about Richmond... No one ever wants to cross the river unless it's a life-or-death situation. That said, thanks for the southside listings. I may check them out sometime. And if you don't make it to...

    Richmond, VA Fish Stores

I like Skoolz of Fish, personally, though I live in the West End and didn't know about the place at Patterson and Gaskins. I'll be checking them out this weekend. Don't forget about other places north of the river! Fin and Feather 5208 Lakeside Ave Richmond, VA 23228 They are a bit more of a...

5 gal Betta Tank stocking suggestions

I have my betta in a 3.5 gallon tank with 5 zebra danios. The betta was a little irritated by them at first, but after a day or two he stopped chasing them, and they have all lived happily together for months.

    I'm new....cycling....guide me oh wise ones :)

My aquarium is pretty new (had it about 2 months) and my husband didn't know about cycling so 2 days after we got it set up I came home to a tiger oscar swimming around. We struggled a lot to keep the ammonia levels manageable. Even with a friend's seed material, it just didn't seem to take. We...

    please advise...artificial plants

I had the same problem, and this is exactly what what I was told at my LFS. I'm pretty new at this too, but I was told it's pretty harmless. You can just rinse it off, and avoid overfeeding in the future.

    Tiger Oscar suddenly missing fins

I came back to the tank a few hours later to see the jewel trying to attack again. I moved it to fish jail (a big tupperware with some gravel, stress coat, and an airstone) and will be returning it to the store whence it came today after work (swapping out the water in the tupperware with tank...

    Tiger Oscar suddenly missing fins

I came home from work and found poor Frank in terrible shape. Just look at the picture... He was fine 2 days ago. On Saturday we added a jewel and a festivum. The owner of the LFS said the jewel would do fine as long as we only had one in the tank even though they're a terror in groups. I...

    New 50 gallon tank

My name is Melissa, and I got my husband a 50 gallon freshwater tank for his birthday on December 7. I had fish as a kid, but my mom was the one doing all the care and maintenance. My brother and I just had to sprinkle some food in every day. My husband got a mature 75 gallon tank from a...
