hey guys, could anyone tell what the best substrate is for small african cichlids? they are using coral sand in the shop, but i thought that was only for marine fish. thanks, jay :D

i have a fluval 103 external filter, but for some reason it isn't sucking, i only cleaned the filter out a few days ago, what could be wrong? any help would really be appreciated. jay :P

thanks guys thanks for all your help. i managed to find a shop that sold the right sand and it works great. ps... kbd517, you can still use a gravel vac, but i let the vac hover above the sand, by doing this the sand lifts of the surface but wont go up the vac. :D

thanks chris, I've got a bio wheel as i dont like putting my hand inside a tank with two hungery piranhas! i dont think i'll use the coral sand as i've heard its full of calcium and mite harm the fish, so i mite go and get a bag of playground sand like you said. thanks for the help jay. :lol:

hello! I would like to use sand instead of gravel for my two piranhas, but can anyone recommend what type to use? I once used coral sand for my old marine tank, could i use that again or would it make the water to hard? :roll:
