"Plant chlorophyll absorbs light at wavelengths of 400 to 700 nm. This is termed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR)" -Huebert.
Simple explanation: the amount of usable "light" a plant receives that can be converted to energy? Someone correct me of I'm wrong. This stuff boggles my mind...
That's alright Stefernini. :)
I was a little busy this week and didn't have time to get on here. I didn't mean to freak everyone out. Lol. At least we all know now.
Anyways...about the WPG rule and T5HO bulbs. Well, it's complicated. Haha. I'd try and explain but I found something better...
DISREGARD MY PREVIOUS STATEMENTS
Apparently I don't know what I'm talking about quite yet...haha :ermm:
I thought I could do "low-light" / no Co2. Well, I have the AquaticLife 48" dual T5HO light and it dictates what I'm doing. After digging deeper I now realize I am in the "high-light"...
No extra tank...Yet :ermm:
That is what was putting me off from a full substrate change. But if it is possible to use the gravel I have now by supplementing nutrients, I may just go that route.
I know. The more I think about spending $100 dollars on dirt, the less I want to do the Eco. haha...
Alright...I have been thinking since I got home from work and I know what I need to do. I guess I was just hoping for a shortcut. Haha. You ever know the answer you're looking for but hope someone has a different one? :-)
Basically, I need to get 4 bags of Eco or equivalent, a bunch of plants...
I just wanted to pay respects to the fish that started me in this hobby.
Literally. If not for him, I would have never found my passion, joined this site and taken this hobby so seriously. I recieved him in a measly jar on September of 2010. From that point forward it was my mission to create...
As some of you may know...I have been off and on this site for a while...Well, now I'm back again. Hopefully for good. Unfortunately I tend to get distracted and I lost sight of my passion for awhile...Partly because I haven't changed my tank since I've set it up. It gets boring staring at a...
Just thought I'd give a heads up. :fish2:
That Pet Place in Lancaster, PA is having a sale on all Marineland tanks. $1 per gallon. Get em' while they last. Starts September 1st.
In store only.
Now I won't feel so bad about starting a few new tanks. :D
Yeah, try not to take those posts personally. I used to when I first joined. Everyone here has the best intentions in mind. They just need a little work on not being so abrasive. It's one thing to tell you that 2 Otos wouldn't be happy in a 5 gallon, and it's another thing to tell you that...
Funny story...
I stopped by the LFS yesterday to pickup some Bio-Max and a few other odds and ends. I am getting low on my water conditioner and they didn't have any on the shelf. So I asked an employee and he said it would be about a week until they get more. I say ok, I'll be good for at...
So....
after reading your post yesterday I was inspired to stop by the LFS.
While there I picked up 2 more Otos to bring my total to 6. I was amazed that in the tank of +50 Otos there was a single black one. I asked and was actually able to get him! :D The guy working there got it on the first...
Yeah they are really soft and vulnerable after molting so you won't see him out for a couple days.
I know I freaked out the first time my Amanos molted. I had no idea what was going on. At first I thought it had been eaten from the inside out. Doh! Definitely a learning experience.
Congrats. :thumb: They are crazy little fish. Probably the most entertaining fish in my tank. Have you seen them resting on their pelvic fins yet? I am still trying to figure out how it's possible. I've seen them resting on the front glass with just their fins. Must be magic.
My tank is...
Just to clarify. I didn't mean to offend anyone by my statement. I was merely trying to make light of the situation and bow out gracefully. I don't like E-arguments.
and no hard feelings Tarpon. The internet gets the best of us all sometimes. I should have never posted in here, I don't use...
