Alright, so I went ahead and removed all fish and moved them into a smaller tank and pulled out all rocks and gave them a good wash. I then did about a 60% water change, which mixed up all the substrate sand etc. I finished my aquascaping and just did a test of the water and nitrates are still...
I won't diagree with you, but I also need to move the entire setup. My algae issue has been an ongoing issue and rocks look terrible so the good scrub could be an ongoing weekly thing or a one time deal.
I have been doing my water changes, purchased another 20 lbs of rocks, my own ro/di filter and a new MH light fixture.
With the mounting of the fixture I need to move the tank over 6 inches and back 1 inch.
My nitrates are still pretty high but have been coming down. I have been thinking of...
I just bought a new light fixture but have yet to figure out how to mount it. It is designed to be hung from the ceiling but mine are way to high and tre style, looking for suggestions on mounting options. Also how high off the water should it be. The light is:
2 x 250W, 10k metal halide...
I was thinking about possibly using black rebar or black metal of some sort that would be able to be mounted to the back of the stand and then connected to the light. I was hoping someone else had tried something like this before.
I recently purchased a 48" Hamilton dual Halide hood that is designed to be hung from ceiling but my ceiling is 12 foot high and tre style. What are my options? I am not sure on exact height above tank I need it to be but I would like to attach it from the back without making it look real...
As far as circulation in general, I ended up buying a used Hamilton and will be installing this week. Should I incorporate a fan for he ballast in order to keep it cool.
Also the light I purchased is set to hang from the ceiling. It has two 250 wt halides, how high above the tank should it...
I ran across a used 5 stage RO filter for $14.99 and I am not sure how long it has been without water. I was going to replace all the filters but not sure if I need to replace the membrane as well. The original membrane is rated at 9 gpd if I have to purchase a new one could I get I higher...
I know there are much better systems out there but how bad could they be? I mean is it the bulb or the fixture, or the ballast that makes a big difference? Just looking for opinions as I am new to Saltwater but definitly want clams eventually but don't want o break the bank and its a roll of...
I have planned on buying more rock but it is so expensive, in regards to the water, I have been adding distilled water as my top off, could this be a problem.
I have a test kit but no I haven't been testing the water from the store, I just assumed they were telling the truth and sending it...
I have had this tank about 6 months and so far so good but all of a sudden my nitrates went from 20 to like 60 and algae started growing all over the place. All other measurements are where they should be. The only change I made was where I was getting my water from and he said he checks the...
Well I added the larger Fox Face to the tank with the smaller flame still in there and he chilled out real quick. As of today he hasn't done anything aggressive towards the other inhabitants. Time will tell, but solitary confinment is next step, might have to withhold food, use small fishing...
