Ahh yeah that would be a problem. If you are up for a change you could go with sponge filters or under gravel instead then an air hose can be fed through the grate and your good to go.
As far as keeping the hob I'm not sure I have a good solution on that one
Good Afternoon Everyone,
So my Penguin 200 is dead sand in the impeller it sounds like, i cant afford to get a proper filter for the tank right now,
So i do however have left over media and a pump from my pond, so here is my idea.
5 gallon bucket i got several sitting around.
The intake pipe...
Depending on how much splash back you may be getting from air stones filters etc. I would go with a terrarium lid that is caged then put a light up above.
Yeah i added a bit of ph up today, since i still have some, to get it to right around 7.6 on the api test, im gonna see if it stays or drops back down to 7.0 if it drops i will add a bit more marble and see if it will stay
I dont really know how much it raised it but its keeping the ph at a steady 7.0 in its current state, i plan to slowly raise it a little i will probably add a bit more marble so it can stay around a 7.5.
Hey Everyone
I just wanted to take a moment and share an update on our temporary koi housing. Once the pond is finished I will use this tank for my shubunkin and feeder goldfish.
Its still a little hazy from substrate movement.

Penguin 200 filter upgraded with...
Cool I can get ahold of 40lbs of marble gravel for 3 dollars less than a mile from my house. So I might try that vs having to constantly add baking soda very water change.
I also have an additional question, since im having trouble getting my hands on crushed coral, but our local hardware store has plenty of small marble stones, since Marble is a Calcareous stone like limestone shouldn't it also help raise the ph?
Nothing else was added after that ph test the other night.
However that was the day I made all of those modifications to my filter and added bacteria supplement.
In addition this morning the water is pretty cloudy.
2pm update: checked PH its back down in the low 6s again today.
So ive done nothing to the tank since my post yesterday except I hooked up both lines of my air pump to the stone instead of 1
Oh tonight is darker blue than 7.6 on API chart
Came in at 7.4 to 7.6 on high range ph chart
New nightmare
Ok so been doing lots of water changes etc and I have discovered a new problem
Current stats
Ph around 6.0 again
Ammonia .25ppm
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
My ph was reading around 6.4 so I added the recommended dosage of API ph up which should make it more alkaline per the bottle...
