I have a few issues with my Cichlid tank that I'm trying to address here.. I should mention that this is my first sump setup.. The sump in question is a Pro Clear Premier Series 175 Wet Dry on my 125G corner round acrylic tank. 1. One of the biggest issues I have is feeding.. When feeding...

    Odd substance in my Sump

I just setup my first tank w/ a Sump & Overflow last month or so.. Last week, I noticed a strange, grayish matter in my sump box. I've taken a few photos, none of which are really any good, but I hope you can help me identify what in the world this could be.. My fish seem to be healthy, altho...

    Pleco attack?

Today, one of my parrots has wounds on her sides.. I treated her directly, and the tank with melafix. I'm wondering if this looks like it could've been my pleco attaching himself to her side?? There isnt really anything in the tank that could hurt her afaik.. And due to its location it dosent...

    Slate rock questions

I want to build a rock wall with lots of hiding places for my cichlids in my new tank and have seen several that I like that I think are built out of slate. My question is, where in the world do people find the rocks to do this ? I've tried going to a couple construction type stores with no...

    My Favorite Fish Photo

heh, Thanks guys.. That fish is a ham. He is the reason I love the parrots so much. He'll always come to the top and eat right out of my hand, if I'm up close to the glass he is right there in my face smiling away at me :) -T

    Cichlids in a 25 gal?

I will also vouch for Bio-Spira --- doctor's foster and smith sells it, but you have you pay for overnight shipping so its kinda expensive. (They actually replaced mine and shipped me a new batch for free because UPS waited ofrever to deliver it) Should've mentioned this product before.. works...

I should keep a qt... but I don't. I wish I had one today, I bought 2 Parrots, and 1 Jewel at a store that is going out of biz in the area. There tanks were never really clean, the place was kinda rundown.. but the tanks I took fish out of looked pretty healthy... -t

    My Favorite Fish Photo

This is a pic of one of my bloody red parrot cichlids in my 46 gallon bowfront. It was taken with my EOS 40D w/a f/1.8 50mm prime wide open (hence the blur on the back of the fish -- I wish I could get a decent shot like this again around f/3) Feel free to leave comments on it, I love...

    Sand - Not Hardware....

No problem, I understand how it is.. I'm new here, you never know how much I may know about cycling, or the nitrogen cycle, or any of that kinda stuff. I made some mistakes when I initially setup my first tank, and I learned. My biggest fears these days are disease. I lost a betta that I had to...

    Sand - Not Hardware....

I know all about the fishless cycle. When starting this tank, I brought enough bacteria from my established tank to handle the current bioload. We're currently 4 days in with 0 ammonia levels, and 0 nitrites. (there was a small bit of nitrites on day 2, but they're back down at 0 again now) I...
