    Setting up the 140g

I knew it - Oscars, Im a lucky guesser!!!! :) You might be awhile on the wood sinking on its own, that's a big ol piece of lumber - you may have to secure it to a rock in the tank.

    Setting up the 140g

Awhhhhhh yes, a 6 foot tank - very exciting! If I had to guess, Id say the waters will soon be inhabited by South American Cichlids.... am I close "The Oscar"? :) Keep us updated through images, I'll be following your build....

    Gourami

IMO a 13 is too small, to me 20 gallon is minimum. I love these fish in a heavily planted tank.

    Really want!!

That is a Cyrtocara moorii aka Blue Dolphin (fitting name)!! They are Africans Cichlids found in Lake Malawi and from my experience very peaceful. Often they are kept with Aulonocara and Haplochromis which also exsist in Lake Malawi. They do require large aquariums with 5' length being kinda...

I've seen these and they look like a great tool to monitor tank conditions for greater success with your reef set up's. I love Christmas shopping for myself! Be watching this thread for your follow up.

    Need an easy floating plant

I like it! It will provide some shade for your fish and looks terrific... But don't put it on your salad :)

Why are Neon Tetras so hard to keep ?

86 seems warm for this species. I often see losses with chain store fish, its usually 1-2 when I buy a group of 6-7. But like you I have no problem purchasing chain given the 30 days guarantee. I have found that Green Tetras are very hardy and in my opinion prettier than Neons. However, I've...

    29 Gal Stocking Question

Colorful, active and hardy! Plus you should consider the level with which your selections occupy the water column, meaning you want fish that stay on the top of the tank, species that swim in the middle and species that stay in the bottom. TOP LEVEL Espei Rasbora - cool little top level...

Newbie in need of help! New tank, need advice

As previously mentioned daily water changes AND daily water tests so you can monitor your cycle. Something that could really help you is to locate some seeded filter material. Filter media which already contain nitryfing bacteria will greatly speed up your cycle. By adding seeded material you...
