    tank background

to make a 3d insert, I've heard of people getting big blocks of styrofoam, and then carving away at it to look like rocks and what not, and then molding chicken wire around the shapes and contours. then finally they apply cement over it to make the rocks hard and for it to sink. sometimes they...

    Halide Pendant Paint Flaking

I forgot to mention about the chemical leaching you asked about. if you do feel it will leach chemicals you could also check for the marine forms of that type of paint, which is commonly used on boats or anything that stays in water. try contacting someone at a company like dupli color they...

    Halide Pendant Paint Flaking

try using the kinda paint they use to paint engine blocks and parts on cars. it comes as a spray or in a can to use with a brush. it withstands high temps and cracking, you can get it in all sorts of clors and finish's, some are even made to be reflective like chrome is. you can find it any auto...

Just needed to vent about poor pet-ownership!

you think thats bad? I had a friend who's parents were landlords and they called me in a panic one day. apperently one of there homes they rent was vacant for about 4 months with no heat or electricity in the middle of winter. The last tenants left behind 6 terrariums built into a wall unit like...

will Corwin get a new friend?

I had a betta in a 2.5 gallon with a ramshorn snail and I never had any problems. Gupy losing coloration

Its most likely a sign of stress. I don't know much about the guppys, but maybe you can add some more places for them to hide and claim as there own. I know that with some bright multi colored fish, the color of your gravel can effect the way there colors look, but I doubt thats what it is in...

a betta and neons can be friends, right?

they most likely won't get along. Then agian I've seen groups of tiger barbs and a betta get along perfectly for years. One other thing I've heard of is that betta's don't really like alot of current or tall tanks, they prefer to just have still water and not use there muscles if they don't have...

tons of diatoms in recently cycled tank

the good thing about diatoms is that they are completly harmless and some fish and inverts will graze on them, but not enough to remove them completely. the bad thing is they go crazy and cover everything lol. But yes it is fairly common for diatoms to develop during the cycle of a new tank.

Total Meltdown in 75 gal tank

wow really sorry to hearabout your loss! if it was me, I wouldn't put bleach or anything like that in your tank, it may some how get left over even after you disenfect everything. I've heard of it absorbing into the silicone seals when people clean a used tank they bought. I would play it safe...
