I've had that problem a few times! Whenever I have to replace a ram its always a male. My females remain healthy and active, but every once in a while ill lose a male. I dont understand what happens. Why no other fish has problems at the time.

I just lost a male as well :( he was thinning out too before he died.

I have black, pink and marbled convicts, and mine all act the same. They spawn at the same times, all six pair. Once they start I promise they'll never stop :)

If its a male, and you have for sure females, he will pair up with one and they will terrorize the other. They will pair up on their own pretty quick. When he picks one take the others out so they don't get beat up. Convicts are fantastic parents that don't allow ANY other tank mates

I could be wrong, but the convict looks like a male to me. I have 6 pairs,I breed them for live feeders and the shape looks male

You can remove them and hatch them yourself if you don't want to wait on the pairs parenting skills to arrive. :) I've done it, I just got tired of seeing them eaten!

I'm not familiar with that many fish, so I really couldn't say who can go in what :) I have my convict pairs in 10g tanks. As for other fish I have, there's oscars, JDs, parrots, yellow lab, pair of red belly pacu, pair of blue acara, pair of venestus (not sure I spelled that right), guppies...

Yeah that blows. I'm not getting rid of mine but I'm looking for another fish to get into. That experience was alot of work. What other fish do you have?

Doing good so far!! They have been eating vinegar eels and ground up flakes. There's a ton of them!
