Diatoms usually only show up in new tank setups where the entire tank is filled with fresh water. They thrive on the amount of silicates in the water. Otocinclus are exceptionally adept at cleaning up diatoms and they're a very helpful part of any tank. Generally the diatoms should go away...

I received some unwanted Ramshorn snails on a shipment of plants I ordered from Aquabid. I thought they were pretty cool looking and that I could control their population. Boy was I wrong. I've grappled with the idea of killing them as humanely as possible, but I can't bring myself to do it...

The loaches would be indiscriminate toward the type of snail. If it's a snail, it stands a chance to be eaten.

So last night I saw that my one snail had a patch of eggs on its shell! One of the other snails must have thought that the shell of it's sibling was the ideal spot to lay some eggs LOL. Any chance these will hatch? Any risk to the snail carrying around those eggs?
