Hi All (Copied from Welcome Forum for Advice)

Welcome to AA. External Filtration (noticed you said you weren't sure) is typically not done in a reef tank, at most people will use a sock on an overflow to the sump to catch particulate. (you didn't mention if you will be using a sump, but it's advisable if only to keep the clutter out of...

    Fish Caught In Powerhead

Unfortunately power heads often get the rep. for being fish killers, but in fact they just collect floating items that are too big to go through them (debris, dead fish, etc.). Anemones on the other hand. Power heads like to puree them. I personally wouldn't go with a sponge on a power head...

    hypothetically....can you start w/o so much $$$

I would say this is a good idea, when I bought my 120, even though it was going to be planted, I had it drilled so I could move to SW. Ended up with a sump on a planted tank for a while too.. Even if you don't want to do it yet, you can pick up ABS threaded plugs from HD.

    Ick on top of water...

Pointing a powerhead at the surface will drive them back into the water column, this will help if you have a protein skimmer, but if you don't have one and are using mechanical filtration, then perhaps something like a fluval skimmer would help ( Fluval Aquaclear ) Both are designed to float on...

Would you use this tap water in your tank?

I use tap with mine. No problems (SPS, LPS and Zoas) My main concern with your water are the elevated Nitrates, it's gonna make it hard for the replacement water to bring trates down. (tho it says you norm is between 1.6 and 7.3) The other concern is the lack of reading for Phosphates...

Most people only burn once or twice, then they stop burning. Just ask a roofer or some other outdoor tradesman if they use sunscreen or sunblock.

McCosker's Flasher Wrasse - need to be in group?

The link I posted from WWM in your other thread has this to say. "These fishes are hardier than they appear, most are bumped off by jumping out, being kept improperly; as lone males (they live in harems in the wild), with not-peaceful-enough tankmates, without adequate habitat, or sufficient...

    Feeding new wrasse?

Most flasher wrasse are hardy. Some things about the flashers.. They are called flashers because they like to flash at the surface.. Make sure you have a cover of some sort. As for bullying. The Maroon and possibly the pseudo can cause some issues, maroons are downright mean in most cases...

    Feeding new wrasse?

I have several Canary Wrasse, zero issues with reef safe warning, They do eat crustaceans thus the "reef safe with caution". Never had any issues with them eating, other then, they don't stop.. I'm starting to think they even eat in their sleep.. Extremely social (I have 3 in the tank now, one...

    Majano Anemone?

Cindy is of course correct.. I think.. I've only heard of it by the name of Neomeris annulata It requires a fairly high flow. It is calcium based as well. for more info. Melev's Reef - Visual Identification Right dead center.

    Blender Mush, Whats your recipie?

Sorry, forgot about that. I used 2 cloves of fresh garlic. And the fish do pick at (and enjoy) little pieces of garlic.

    Blender Mush, Whats your recipie?

Yup, it will cloud up a bit, but it dissipates quickly. For mine, I kept it simple. 5 white shrimp, whole/raw 3 clams (cherry I think?) 5-6 sea scallops some flake to thicken a bit Selcon to taste. None of my fish would eat the squid so I scrapped that.

    diatoms

Diatoms feed on silicate and light. There is no real accurate test for silicates, but there aren't too many sources. As mentioned it will burn itself out. That is as long as you aren't adding more silicates (but even then, you can't add enough to fuel an outbreak, you would need a constant...
