My tank is a 175g Bowfront.
I did an 80 gallon water change yesterday.
My tank is plumbed to a sump in the garage, normally I will start a siphon and run a hose out of it, and get another water hose filling two 5 gallon jugs at a time, and just pour in slowly as water is removed.

I recently converted my reef tank to a dirted planted tank. Its plumbed to a sump in my garage.
I put a layer of peat moss/topsoil mix approx 2 inch deep, then set another 2" of pea gravel on top. So far so good. I filled the tank up to the top of the substrate approx 3-4 weeks ago, planted...

For the plants to grow properly will I need c02? I don't really care to have a...

Water changes will remove the tap water. There are products that are supposed to make tap water safe to use. I'm not familiar with them. Tap water typically has things like chlorine and fluoride added to it so it's probably best to do a big water change then follow up with more.
You make a valid point ding... I assume if you do frequent water changes your parameters shouldn't drop enough in a weeks time to make that substantial of a difference.
