    46 gallon bowfront

Honestly looks fine to me. For $100 it is probably worth a shot. I will say I am always wary of buying used tanks. I've heard too many horror stories of seemingly sturdy used tanks blow out unexpectedly.

    Apisto?

Looks like a small juvenile female apisto cacatuoides to me.

Has anyone ever used passive CO2?

I have seen this method used before and it does work. Granted, you will not be getting the level of co2 diffusion that you would expect with a pressurized system with a ceramic diffuser. For a low tech 10 gallon you should be perfectly fine. I will say, in order to utilize this system you will...

I really Miss My Old Tank!

Beautiful tank! Those Harlequin Rasboras are some of the largest I've ever seen!

Need good air line suction cups

I like the airline host suction cups that Aquarium Co-op sells. The material they make their out of holds up much better than anything else I've used before.

Colorado Aquarium Society Spring Auction 2022

Sad I had to miss it this year! I'll be back in the fall. Club auctions are always such a fun event.

    Platty

Fish will often go through color/ pattern changes through out the course of their life. This is nothing to worry about and appears to be 100% natural to me.

For Sale: Selling off lots of stuff

I am not interested in the box, but just wanted to chime in about the Build My LED. I remember when they were the talk of the town in the planted tank community. I still own a 48inch BML and even after all these years it runs perfectly and I will always stand by the fact that BML made the single...

125 makeover! (African or South American)

Those apple snails are ludicrously huge! I've never seen any in person that large!

    Eggs Fertilized.. Or Not?

Either way, corys breed on a nearly continuous basis if they are provided good conditions. You will get more eggs if these don't work out. This is why bronze Corydoras are often bred in lab settings for genetics work. The eggs are large and easy to pull from tanks. The fry also develop rather...

    cherry shrimp not getting big

Yep it really is all about the additional calcium if you want to optimize growth and breeding. Seeing as much of their body mass is built from calcium I guess this makes sense.

    Local/localish Breeders?

If you want to find local breeders I would try and find the local aquarium club in your area. That is a great way to get in touch with other aquarists in the area (many of which have large fish rooms and lots of breeding projects).

    Eggs Fertilized.. Or Not?

Typically you don't have to use a microscope to determine if the eggs are fertilized. Usually fertilized eggs will be slightly amber in color in a day or two after being laid and have a little black dot in them. Unfertilized eggs tend to turn white with fungus pretty quickly and can harm the...

    Rock/Minerals' Impact on Aquarium Water

There are a few things you can do to test for a rock’s suitability for aquariums. The acid test is the first one. Pour a little vinegar or ph down on a rock. If it fizzes it will increase ph and is usually a limestone or calcium carbonate based. These rocks are not unusable but it is a good idea...

    I'm back!

Planted tanks are super addictive  I almost enjoy the plant aspect more than the fish! It really adds a cool new dimension to any tank.

    cherry shrimp not getting big

Cherry shrimp don't get spectacularly large typically. Another thing that could help is getting some extra calcium in the water for exoskeleton construction. Shrimp also tend to just do a lot better when the available calcium is higher. Cuttle bone, like those found it pet stores for birds, is a...

    Rams and Apistogramma

In a 90 they will get along. In larger tanks it isn't really an issue. They tend to only get aggressive with each other in smaller setups.

Returning To The Hobby, Been Away For Awhile

Sounds like you've got the foundation of a beautiful tank laid down! Welcome to the forum :welcome:

A good FIRST “Single Betta / Tiny Bowl” Setup while building a larger system

Those articles are good, but outside of a betta you will not have much luck keeping anything in a bowl for very long. I will reiterate what others have said and say it is not a good idea and I would advise against it. Also, how small of a bowl are we talking? A betta can live quite comfortably...

    ID needed for SPS frags

Could #3 be a cyphastrea? I would say either that or a really withdrawn gonipora.

    Anoxic filtration

I watched the video and it is a neat idea, but honestly I think it is overengineering a problem that we don't need to even have. In a planted tank you are often battling to keep your nitrates at readable levels due to rapid consumption when plants are photosynthesizing. I find myself always...

    Green Terror Injuries

I second Aiken Drum. Fish can recover from pretty bad physical injuries quickly if given clean water and a low stress environment. Adding the Melafix is a decent idea to stave off secondary infection. Just give him time to rest and clean water and he should make a full recovery. The injuries...

    Christmas fish gift

The 3 gallon will suffice. Do not worry about tracking down a 5 gallon. Just keep an eye on your new betta to make sure he is doing well during the initial few weeks. At this point the #1 mistake most people make is over feeding. A small amount of food (enough for the fish to eat in 15-20...

    Grey Matter

Appears to just be mulm which usually accumulates from organics breaking down in your tank. Keep doing good gravel vacs and keeping up on your tank maintenance and it should go away. Do you have rocks in the tank? If it is a new tank without time for mulm to accumulate it could be dust/debris...

    Orinoco "biotope" stocking

I would say that stocking is just about spot on. Also I love the Orinoco biotope idea. Such a cool eco system that is home to many of our popular aquarium species.
