    calerpa

I believe that only the calcerous types go sexual. The leaf types are mostly kept in refugiums and harvested periodically for nutrient export.

What species of Caulerpa are you talking about?

Help! Noive needs advice with Algae problem

Diligent manual removal is the only way to beat this stuff. It may take a couple months, but you can beat it. Also, as was said before, reduce photo period and use RO water for make up and changes. I don't think that you'll find a clean up crew that will touch it.

Not suprising at all. I started with one, and now have 4.

    Thermos Trading

I'm assuming that you can't send frags that are attached to rocks, since they would probably destroy the frag from bouncing around. Or am I wrong? Does the thermos have glass interiors or are they now plastic? Do you fill the thermos completely full of water, or do you leave some air in it?

    Thermos Trading

Can someone fill me in on how thermos trading is done? I have 4 good size Capnella tree corals I'd like to trade.

    coralline algae dieing

All my makeup water is replaced with kalk, other than that nothing is added but fish food. I do have MH lighting though.

    coralline algae dieing

Sorry, but they don't eat corals or polyps either (they haven't eaten any of mine). I really wouldn't believe much of anything that Garf says.

    coralline algae dieing

These stars do not eat coraline. I have thousands of these little stars and I have to scrape coraline off of the front glass every week. My back glass has a 1/8" coating of coraline and the rocks and powerheads are all covered.

    Tank cooling

Do you think that, just maybe, the people at the LFS wanted to sell you a chiller? :o My tank has been as high as 87-88 without any problems.

Will this make some things mad?

Really? Everyone? Well then, maybe you should visit other sites rather than only this one. When I first got into this hobby, the general consensus was that spectrum was most important. That has changed in the last few years. I know people with only 6500k's over their frag tanks with...

Will this make some things mad?

This is not true. The spectrum of the light is of little importance when compared to the intensity. True blue LED's (not the ones that have blue tinted lenses) do put out light in the same range as actinics. I have some of them. Define "good kelvin rating". It's mostly asthetics...

A new possibility or a sham? (Lights)

They do it because, most of the time, the PC light is replacing an incandescent light. Bob

    Xtra filter.

The skimmer will be more productive if the water for it is skimmed from the surface. What are you using for a biological filter now?

    fish load question

It sounds like you're saying that your tank can support 1" of fish per 5 gallon. While this may or may not be true, the only correct way to determine a maximum fish load is to somehow, (and I'm not quite sure how to do this) calculate how much waste your biological filter can process. You then...

Do I have the proper setup?

I would let it go. It's too late to save everything. The crushed coral and UGF needs to be replaced with sand. That can't happen without moving the fish to another tank. Just let it go through the cycle and see what's left, then, when everything is healthy, make the change.

    Sebae anemone

Sebaes are one of the harder anemones to keep. It should accept RAW shrimp pieces (thawed of course). What kind of lighting do you have?

    Tap Water Filter

Unless you have pristine tap water, you need some kind of filter. Good tap water may only need a DI, the Tap Water Purifier mentioned before is a DI filter. For not so good tap water, a RO filter , or maybe a RO/DI filter will be needed. Unfortunately, someone mentioned that "pure" water...

    Tap Water Filter

Like you said the Tap Water Purifier is a DI unit. It'll remove pretty much everything, depending on the flow rate through the cartridge. These things are fine if you have fairly good tap water to begin with. If you're running very hard water with a high TDS level, the cartridge won't last...

•Minium setup for banded coral shrimps...

My CBS has never bothered any of the fish. To be honest, I don't think they could catch a fish if they tried, they're way too slow. A sick fish they may be able to catch, but not a healthy one.

    48 hour cycle

Can anyone who believes that this stuff works, please explain to me, how the bacteria can be kept alive in those bottles for, who knows how long? Maybe months? We all know how quickly you can lose biofiltration when filters fail.
