    Nitrate levels

To answer your question with math… you’re changing 10% of your total system, and if it was at 10ppm, you’ll only be dropping it to 9ppm, given your source water and salt is free of nitrate. Depending on your test kit, this may or may not even translate to being readable. You may be...

75 gallon build- Full Triton Method

Not much doins with the tank. Started dosing NOPOX, since I increased feeding with the fish that got moved over. Keeping NO3 and PO4 in check. Haven’t missed the fuge for a second. Noticed no drop in PH and the nutrients have been incredibly easy to manage. Slight aiptasia outbreak and keeping...

    Dino?

Forgot to mention you can also run UV. Oversized and low flow is ideal.

    Dino?

May also want to run carbon due to the toxic nature of some Dino’s

    Dino?

Yes. Try to get a few different species of pods. Tisbe, Tigger, Apex, etc. Their population will increase and stabilize with the dosing of live phyto. This will affectively increase your tanks biodiversity. Keepin in mind, this is not an overnight fix, just be patient and with diligent tank...

    Dino?

And also- best way to identity is through a microscope slide. There are multiple strands of Dino’s, and they may have a different approach to dealing with them. In most cases, diversifying your bacteria through above mentioned methods will take care of nuisance algaes.

    Dino?

How old is this tank? I’d personally stop treating it. A lot of times if you aren’t aware of what your real NO3/PO4 values are, ie via ICP test or other reliable test kit, and you run ChemiClean, you’re opening up a lot of space for Dino’s to move in. Chemical treatments should always be a last...

    Torch vs long tentacle plate

They do have the ability to shimmy on the sand, as a heads up, which is where they should live anyways. I’ve never seen any sweepers, so as long as your other corals aren’t touching it, I’d assume you’ll be fine (famous last words). Torches throw sweepers, in contrast, and likely won’t be sand...

    Torch vs long tentacle plate

Bottom right corner in the back, its kinda retracted, but even when it’s extended I’ve had no issues and it’s within 2-3” of that greenfrogspawn colony.

    Torch vs long tentacle plate

I have a 6” diameter heliofungia that hangs out on the sand bed, so its extension is fairly predictable and doesn’t vary much. Once yours is happy, the extension is pretty much WYSIWYG, and dont think you’ll have any aggression issues. Torches on the other hand, can send fairly long sweepers...

    Can anyone ID this?

Asterina starfish. Harmless. Like to eat algae off rocks and glass. Can siphon them out during water changes of population gets too high.

Post your full tank shot here.

    Salt

I’ve found buy the salt that mixes with the DKH closest to what you maintain your tank at, once your corals start consuming alk/cal. A lot of the coral intended salts have a higher DKH while others have a lower DKH. I maintain my tank around 9.00dkh and the salt I used mixes around 9.00-9.3dkh...

    High Phosphate

What size tank, what’s your livestock, and what’s your feeding schedule? You could try a flocculant, but may want to consider a more frequent water change schedule, since your PO4 is that elevated (if from food, or other additives) you may have several other unwanted organics in the tank that...

75 gallon build- Full Triton Method

Well I ended up making the decision to take down my WaterBox 60.2 SPS system, and added those coral to my 75 gallon mixed reef. Pretty happy with how it came out, should grow nicely once I get alk/cal dialed in with the increased consumption. Had my hands in the tank for a bit, and definitely...

    Coral not fully open

How old is this tank? Rocks and sand look off the shelf new. Has it cycled yet?

75 gallon build- Full Triton Method

It’s all open, there’s no door on it. It’s an entirely separate unit that the tank itself, to the side. All this Hydros gear is IP65 rated as well. Not the power strip on the left, but everything else can get soaked no problem.

75 gallon build- Full Triton Method

Spent the better part of the evening tearing my old cabinet down and putting this one up. Bit more room and not as top heavy. Hydros control all day. Still need to add ESV Nitrate and Transition Elements to the doser. Other than that, we’re straight.

    Feeder blocks

When is your trip? You can always do a trial run of it while you’re home so you can monitor water quality and see how it goes.

    Feeder blocks

8 days worth of block food I don’t see leading to anything good. I’d def recommend getting a feeder setup.

    Feeder blocks

How long is your vaca, what’s your live stock situation?
  22. Flaxon-Waxon

    Feeder blocks

I’ve never used blocks in a reef tank for feeding. What are you planning on using? Auto feeders are very easy to setup and program, and are a good tool to have anyways, maybe consider it a good time to add one…

75 gallon build- Full Triton Method

Current tank shot after a bit of maintenance. She’s on the back end of a Dino outbreak and things are finally settling back down. SPS are colored and euphyllia are getting fluffy again.

This is pretty cool… I was very active on this forum about 10 years ago. I’d like to start posting and interacting again… hopefully there are some reefers here still 😉
