Glo light tetras and neon tetras??

Tetras don't school anyway, unless in a large tank with larger fish. Even then, they shoal, not school. If you want a small schooling fish, look at the danio species. In 10g, you won't get that schooling effect still, but if you get a small enough fish, maybe Tinwini danios, they will go back...

    indoor mini pond

I've heard of people trying this, and other DIY pond liners, 9/10 doesn't end well. 1 guy had a blue heron tear through his plastic sheeting lol so he said. Randomly his water started going down a little bit every day. All he could think of was the heron always pecking around in the shallow area...

    cichlid colour

Those are the 2 most important factors. Make sure the water parameters are as close to ideal for the species you want to colour. Environment such as decor from their natural habitat helps with a sense of security and stress, helping bring out true colours. Stocking can also affect how vivid...

Big als Oakville moving - 75% off in stock items

Meh, wasn't anything special. They have the UP TO 75% EVERYTHING IN STORE signs everywhere, but very little is even over 20% off. All livestock is only 10% off. Wasn't impressed, and 3 of the fish section staff went on lunch at the same time. Leaving 1, very pissed off, very rushed employee...

How many shop at Big Al's?

Hamilton has a good selection and an educated, informative staff. Isn't the most appealing visually, compared to Oakville, but still a solid LFS. It is smaller, so they remove the koi pond during the winter. Oakville is a much nicer store, bigger and more tanks. What I found was that, even...

Big als Oakville moving - 75% off in stock items

Is this anyones LFS? I've been there a few times, awesome aquarium section. Some of those tanks are massive... and they are moving?? Anyone have $50,000-150,000 to lend me to buy their displays? I heard they are moving closer to dundas, trafalgar area. Is this true?? (Closer to me!:)) I'm...

    Crawfish

Not necessarily. Mines in a cichlid tank, so only anubias and other plants they don't eat, so I don't have that problem with my royal blue. You can try it, as it may work for some, not for others. Just keep it fed. If you can, keep plants away from his favourite cave/hideout, or get different...

    New tank

I just like the warranty you get with buying new. I had a 72g bowfront crack randomly at 330am 3 days after I tore a tendon in my foot. Fun night! Bought it off kijiji so nothing I could do. Was $100 with a light and canopy. Sexing hand lol

    loaches: yo-yo and polka -dots

They rest in awkward positions sometimes, sideways or even upside down. Look dead until another yoyo swims by, all of a sudden it's going full speed. It's better to feed too little than too much, they are efficient scavengers and eat just about everything the fish miss. About the belly, could...

    Uv light

No, it's unhealthy for the fish. They still need a sense of day and night, or they'll become stressed and likely fall ill. I've read many mixed reviews of UV sterilizers on indoor aquariums, with the majority saying it's not needed. I use one for my pond, but that's a lot of other factors to add...

    Nitrites out of control

During a fish in cycle, don't use the first replies advice, you need to have ammonia and nitrites to complete the cycle. I went through 10 weeks of fish in cycling on a 90g, ammonia stayed around .50, and nitrites around 2ppm. No losses. Nitrites being at 5, you will want to do a pwc though...

    drift wood yellow water

I boil once for 30sec or if it's too big for the pot I just fill the tub with hot water. If it has changed my water, which I haven't noticed, it changed it for the better. Just remember, your aquarium isn't going to be boiling, and it's also a bigger body of water.

Creating a self-sustaining goldfish aquarium - is it possible?

Comets are one of the biggest, dirtiest goldfish. Definitely a pond fish and needs much more than 15g. My comets use every inch of the pond, unlike the koi and other goldfish, and dart around faster than the rest. As for a giant planted tank, don't plants take in the oxygen from the water when...

    Betta

and that's what everyone says too, he is happy and healthy. In your case, being in a unheated, unfiltered bowl, that's great having him for a year, but he most likely won't see 2. In an actual tank, they live 5+ years. From those pictures, that looks like 2.5L, not gallons, in comparison with...

    Aquarium salt

Can you answer brads question so we know where you're at and further help you with the ammonia problem; Do you know what cycling is? If you don't address this, you will start/continue to have increasing problems with your fishes health.

Will my fish survive during break?

It depends how confident you are in your water quality and equipment. I'd look into an automatic fish feeder. I don't care for them, but I know people who swear by it's convenience.

    What is going on!!!!!

Agreed. I've seen people try and sell everything once it crashes. With half dead fish in it.

    What is going on!!!!!

I kind of have a feeling (since the tank was established and balanced), that the new fish couldn't handle being introduced to 85F water with the additional stress of transport. Therefore dying and causing an ammonia spike. (I do blame low oxygen for the actual deaths though) Shouldn't buy new...

    What is going on!!!!!

I agree with Slade, if you've had a cycled tank with no elevations in anything for a while, the ammonia could be up from a few hours of dead fish. Neither nitrites or ammonia skyrocketed though, I've have large spikes in both with no illness/death as a result. I do, however, have high aeration...

    Bongo International

Never heard of it, will look up. I'm more interested in finding a reliable, credited tropical fish store that is located in Canada and ships nationwide.
