    Reasonably stocked Aquaponics system.

the palnts and soild will hold alot of water. WC like in a traditional aquarium wont be as necessary, rather keeping the water topped off will. Topping off will replentish minerals. If you do WC like in a normal aquarium, then you have no fish waste and nitrates for the plants!!

Need help removing glass siliconed to glass

sure like a high E or B string, G MIGHT work but depending how close the glass is, G might be too fat (depends on the overall gauge too). I ended up using a .001 and .002 feeler gauge to cut thru the glass seam. It was VERY tight in some areas, went through maybe 6 of these gauges. In the...

Maybe later in 5-6 years I can have a custom acrylic tank made, 9 ft long, 20" deep, 24" tall. Would do away with those side cabinets and...

Twin 75 gal into single larger aquarium

yes definitly do NOT connect the seams together to achieve 48" depth. Silicone is strongest in tension, much weaker in shear. You could make this work if you placed a patch panel over the seam and did a glass perimiter brace around the tank but 1) expensive 2)it will look like crap. If anything...

Youd think a reputable company would have properly calibrated heaters. Its not a huge deal, as you learn what the true temp is vs what the dial says. But is an inconvenience no doubt. If someone had very sensitive livestock and dropped one of these in, could cause some issues if you are not...

    105"x38"x20" stand I built

decided to add some small beuty trim jsut under the crown molding to hide the pine backing, and also covers the gap betwene the lid and the top. and it was 10 bucks only so might as well. Tonight I will FINALLY be finished all the construction, and just stain left now. The glass top is done as...

Thank you, that is very true. The larger the fish, the more waste, especially with a pleco. What about a smaller 4-5" bushynose? Im really liking the red spotted variety of the discus, great contrast agsint a heaviuly planted tank, and I beleive they are commons domestics?

didnt think of light inside the cabinetr, not really necessary as I have a pot liugth almost directly infront and above the tank which shines a lot of light into it with the doors opened up. I have decided on B as well, just need to find a nice center piece of driftwood (will offset it 2/3...

Everything good but pH for discus

i have a small RO system at my house, but it is upstairs at the kitchen sink, dont have the space/patience to be aging and mixing water either. In my little 15g that has bene up for 4 years i go straight from the tap into the tank. There is no chlorine in my well system, and so far everyone...

Everything good but pH for discus

Everything good but pH for discus

Hey guys, I have had my dirted tank cycling for approx 2 weeks. I put my cory and pleco in there from my other small tank, both have same water params. They seemed fine in the other tank which was up and running for the last 4 years, seem good in new tank. I am preparing a home for discus...

got my stnad coming along nicely, added a beuty trim around the edge to break up the vertical wall of oak. routed both sides of some 2"x1" red oak for it, so all there is left now is the top hood and crown molding. Got the material for it, hoping to be staining the whole thing before the weekend...

quick Q, wondering how my plant and driftwood setup shoudl be. my sub slopes up towards rear of the tank. Wondering if i should do A or B. A brings both sides low then high in the middle with a central peice of wood or whatnor, B has high growth on the side with more of a void in the middle...

Got it up finally, i mixed 30lbs of natural clay with about 120lbs of soil, and capped with with 100 lbs of black beauty blasting sand. The BB cap was nice, definitly minimizes sediment getting stirred up. Plus the black sand looks awesome, however wont be seeing much of it as i want to plant...

my original 125 i was rebuilding cracked at the top corner and fell apart, a good 6" x 6" section as I was tightening down the clamp to get air out of the one seam that didnt want to hold on its own. Well..that was a bummer. But i picked up another 125 in good condition with good main and...

    coralife lights?

With my used tnak purchase I also got a 5' long light housing, which has 3x 36 watt coralife 50/50 bulbs in it. This is for a freshwater setup so these bulbs are no good for me, I want a nice 72" 6700k LED for the 125. Just wondering if these are worth anything? Pretty sure the housing is a...

mocked up the rear pane. of the tank. originally I was going to do a drop down section of the hood over the tank as it is 5" lower than the top of the cabinets, but have come to the conclusion, I will build a 5" riser for the tank, under which will be a big pull out drawer or perhaps just a...
