Does anyone have any opinions or thoughts these set-ups? No CFM rating, but very convienent for my issue. I am installing 2-175 MH in my existing canopy (55gal) The lights will be approx. 5-6" over the surface. The canopy is an open back. I thought these, blowing in from the middle of the...

Hamilton Deluxe Metal Halide \ PC System

Hi, I am looking for opinions on whether or not this this a good set of lights. I have seen the same set-up online for anywhere from $5-700.00, without the 14K bulbs, and those are usually about $50.00 a piece. The auction is over, but I still would like to know about Hamilton Deluxe Lights...

    New Aquarium All fish died

Sarcasm... Why do I find it ironic that your screen name is "Edison"? With all due respect, if you could not tell the difference between salt and freshwater fish, and no clue as to the care and environment required by either, you have no business in this hobby...period. I cannot even play off...

Garden Basics play sand from Wal-Mart?

No.... Nope, read a post that someone else used it with success, and I went off of that. My DSB has been in for about 3-4 months, is working fine, fish are all healthy and happy, and I have plenty of bubbles in the DSB, meaning it is working well....

Garden Basics play sand from Wal-Mart?

Worked for me.... I used 2 55 lb bags of Garden Basics from Wal-Mart in my 55gal tank....seeded with 20 lbs of live aragonite, and 2 lbs from the LFS reef tank....Tank looks beautiful, and the DSB works like a charm.

    Coral Recommendations....

Hi guys (and gals), I wanted some suggestions on possible coral choices for my 55gal tank. My set-up is currently a 55gal, 60lbs of Live rock, 4-5" of DSB, 1 Fluval 404 + 2 PH units, water flow is not an issue. I just purchased off of Ebay a 4X55 PC complete plug and play retrofit 2 10K and 2...

    Anyone know??

Thanks! Thanks for the prompt reply.....I do not have a mag glass, but I will pick one up....I have quite a few of these "dots", for lack of a better description, it almost looks like Ick, only on the glass....If they are as you describe, are they detrimental? Should I be scraping them off of...

    Anyone know??

Hi People, Just a quick question, I my tank has been up and running for about 2 onths now, and all is well...I have noticed one thing I would like some advice on though. I have noticed white dots appearing on the back and side glass of the tank, they almost look like small calcium deposits...

    Cycled?...Opinions....(Photos)

Sorry for the delayed response, Actually, I did not epoxy, but I do take quite a bit of time to set the rocks and place them correctly. I always make sure that there are at least 3 points of contact to make a stable base for each and every rock. In some cases, I utilize the back glass as the...

    Need I.D. Please

Thanks Kevin, I appreciate it...They will stay.. As usual, I have another simple question...I have read that in order to kill the aiptasia, I should inject them (hot water, vinigar water etc...) I was curious why people don;t just grab them with tongs and pull them out of the tank and chuck...

    Need I.D. Please

Thanks... Thank you for the link, it was interesting, and will be a good resource in the future.... I read what it said about the worms, but even that said (unless I missed something) that they are a normal component of a healthy DSB, and beneficial to the overall system. It did make...

    Need I.D. Please

Hmm.... Well, in reading the resource referenced in the above link, why are Bristleworms bad exactly, because according to that link above, they are beneficial, except for only 1 type which sounds like it is very uncommon..It says: Now I am a little confused, and if the aiptasia can provide...

    Need I.D. Please

Sorry I don't have a picture handy yet, I will get one tonight. I think this is pretty common, but not to me. I just purchased 20# of Fiji Live rock, and another 2# of Carribean live sand to seed my DSB. My question is, that I am seeing several little anenome looking things, coming out of the...

Couple of basic questions from a newbie...(Added Pic)

Thank you for the welcome!! I have learned alot reading past posts and articles so far. One thing I now realize is the bagged "reef sand" really doesn't supply any critters, just bacteria. I am going to the LFS today to get about 5 pounds of real LIVE SAND, hopefully with a large variety of...

Couple of basic questions from a newbie...(Added Pic)

Thanks! Well, based on your advice, I went and purchased 100# of southdown sand, and another 20# of Live Arogonite Reef Sand to seed the DSB with. I now have about 4-5" DSB and I couldn't be happier. It is so much of a visual improvement over the CC (which was a PITA to get all out!) I am...

Couple of basic questions from a newbie...(Added Pic)

No, no algae control yet, and as discussed above, what I originally thought was an algae bloom was simply Diatoms. Does anone have a suggestion of what would be good cleaners in a FO tank? With CC substrate? or with a DSB? Would they be the similar? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the encouragement...I am going to the DSB this weekend...and the Damsels will soon be "store credit" :) Here is the picture of the tank I took tonight...You can see the brown "algae" I was referring too at the top. I hope you like it, I think it came out OK for my first attempt...

Couple of basic questions from a newbie...(Added Pic)

Thank you for the prompt replies and for the interest in my tank...I really appreciate the advice.. One more question...If I remove the damsels, should I replace while still cycling with something else? or, based on the presence of the diatoms, is the process now begun and will continue without...

Oops! Sorry I wasn't more descriptive....It is Marshall Island LR, but was removed from water by the LFS ( I guess that is why they call it dead) and place in some bins...I called it Dead Coral instead of Dead Rock...Sorry for the confusion.
