Decision: keep inherited tank communal, or go cichlid

Thanks for your reply. As was discussed in some previous posts, I decided to stick with a community tank. I have 2 German Blue rams in the mix but that's the extent of the cichlids.

Decision: keep inherited tank communal, or go cichlid

I guess there is a remote possibility that the fish store could have labeled the tank incorrectly, and the associate could have identified the wrong fish. But, there were also gold rams at the store that looked very different. From my observation in person, everything indicates that they're just...

Their colors are not extremely vibrant yet as they are babies, so it's hard to tell. I can say that the pink coloring on the ventral side is the pink part of the ventral fin, not on the actual belly. He/she just had the fin kind of tucked under in the picture.

This one has more blue showing now

Decision: keep inherited tank communal, or go cichlid

Their colors are normally brighter than in the pictures, they seem to change in intensity a lot! I just got them yesterday they're probably still somewhat stressed and acclimating to their new environment and tank mates. And yes I also thought they were too young to sex, I couldn't tell.

One of them does appear to be generally more colorful than the other

Decision: keep inherited tank communal, or go cichlid

That's a good idea, it would be cool if they breed! I think they are too young to sex but I don't see a pink underbelly on either of them.

Thanks everybody. Its coming along, I think I'll add a black background soon. Do rams like the pots or something? I haven't done that before.

Trying to find a good rock or something to balance out the right side.

Decision: keep inherited tank communal, or go cichlid

I do have a pair of keyhole cichlids in my 29 gallon tank. Despite mixed reviews, I went ahead and got a pair of beautiful German Blue rams for the 65 gallon. I couldn't find any Bolivians at local stores. I donated all of the remaining fish except for a school of diamond tetras. I ended up...

    Inherited an unhealthy honey gourami

There are no other gouramis in the tank, and that is good to know about the size. The spots definitely aren't stripes. I'll try to get a picture of the fish.

    Inherited an unhealthy honey gourami

Hi everybody, As I talked about in a previous post, I purchased a 65 gallon freshwater tank that had an established community. Long story short, it was very poorly stocked and a sweet little dwarf honey gourami got the brunt of the stress and aggression. He/she has had their dorsal and...

Decision: keep inherited tank communal, or go cichlid

A taylor swift quote really just happened! I would go for Bolivian rams, if I ever do end up getting some. I've heard good and bad things about rams, but not as exaggerated as ktomminello. However, I appreciate that input as well. The tank is crazy. I donated about 12 fish today and still need...

Decision: keep inherited tank communal, or go cichlid

Thank you both for the input. I definitely want to keep it planted, and I do like having a variety of fish species. I think I'll keep it a community tank and donate some of the fish that aren't a good match for the tank.

Decision: keep inherited tank communal, or go cichlid

Hi all, I purchased a 65 gallon planted, freshwater tank that is an established community tank (48x12.5"). It has an assortment of random fish, including a clown loach that is not suitable for the tank. I'm debating if I should donate the existing fish that I cannot rehome to my 10 or 29 gallon...
