    Cichlids

Glad you enjoy them. I'm still partial to my Malawis though.

Best way to divide a tank

I would probably use plexiglass, as it will bend some without cracking. The downside is that it scratches easily. As far as silicone, I would think any clear, aquarium grade silicone would be fine. I use DAP Aquarium safe clear silicone for any needs with my tanks. It's available at most LFSs...

    Giant Danio sick or breeding?

Mature male giant danios can get an orange or red coloration in their anal and caudal fins. Nothing to worry about.

    Convict Questions

I probably wouldn't put more than a single convict in the tank, unless you can be sure you have a m-f pair. As for feeding, convicts are omnivorous, so go sparingly with the bloodworms. I would try to get a slow-sinking cichlid pellet that has high amounts of spirulina or other vegetable matter...

Kinda new to this, need ideas for new tankmates!

IMO, add 2-3 more corys, as they're a schooling species, and call it good. a 10g tank doesn't have much room for large groups of fish. You could maybe add 1-2 more male guppies, or 3-4 more endlers if you keep up on your maintenance, but certainly no more than that. Or, possibly a female betta...

    outdoor aquariums

I'm going to make a presumption that you mean a pond and not an aquarium. How large of a pond are you thinking of? We have several outdoor ponds, ranging in size from 75-6,500g. Only the large pond has power to it, due to a large stream that needs a pump, and a skimmer. Size will be a major...

    75g Tank Setup Help

We buy much of our aquarium, and most other pet stuff at drsfostersmith.com. They have free shipping for orders over 45.00, and their prices are usually a bit lower than even the chain stores. It should be said that I believe they own Petco. I occasionally buy fish from the chain stores. They...

    Cichlid Stocking Advice (150 gallons)

Silvergoldfish, you're right that males are often more vibrant. I believe you that your tank is 150g. IMO, you can likely do all males, provided you have enough hiding places that weaker fish don't get picked to death. Not having females should help lessen aggression.

    Is my Mollie prenant? Picture

She's pregnant, and looks like she's squaring off, which means fry could come anywhere from tmrw to next week. What species are in you "semi-aggressive community" tank? Likely enough, something in there will eat your fry. Your next step is probably setting up a small fry-rearing tank. Since you...

When can my yellow lab fry join the main tank?

How large is your main tank? With the auratus and the dolphins, I'd say wait until they're nearly 2" to be sure they don't end up on the menu. But, as ralfieboy says, they won't do well in a breeder net for long. You can probably buy a 15g kit for about $60.00, and another $30.00 or so for...

    Cichlid Stocking Advice (150 gallons)

To begin with, I wouldn't go with plecos. Any aggression from the cichlids will stress them to death. Most synodontis catfish do well with cichlids, if you want bottom feeders. Throw in a few mts to clean up detritus, maybe. They'll likely have a population explosion and you'll need to cull them...

    My 20 long :)

It's a beautiful tank. Inspires me to try a shrimp tank of my own, except that I know zilch about shrimp. Great job!

Dwarf rainbow fish. Could they be breeding already

I've had occasions where fish bred soon after putting them in quarantine. I'm not saying that yours are breeding, as I have no experience with dwarf rainbows, but I certainly wouldn't discount the idea. Keep an eye out for eggs so you can take appropriate precautions if you want to rear the fry.

    what fish should i get

Danios are schooling fish. Depending on the type of danios you have, I would add several more. If giant danios, I would try for a school of at least 6. The smaller danios could have a school of a dozen or more if you'd like. IMO, rehome the redtail shark. They're about the most aggressive type...

Tank mates for 2 tetras in 10g

I agree. Add 3-4 more tetras and call it good. That's about all that tank can handle.

    Moving house!!!

That would likely neutralize the acid from the vinegar.

    Moving house!!!

IMO, go with the syrup storage containers, if you have a choice. Less chance that something has leached into the plastic. On the other hand, I doubt enough residual acid could be still in the material to adversely affect your water parameters. Quite a few people use vinegar to lower PH, but the...

    Carpet Surfer

I feel for you. It's hard to lose a favorite fish, especially if you feel at fault. I once had a tiretrack eel find his way into the hob filter, and from there to the floor. Unfortunately, the cat found him before I did. . .

Big fish in a little house.(Red Devil issues)

He's likely just establishing territory. Are there any other caves in the tank that are larger than the house? If not, he may have it staked out as the best he can get. IMO, remove the house and add a larger cave. He'll adjust.

Fluval C3 Filter humming but not filtering water

Sometimes when they're off long enough, filters need to be primed. Just fill the filter compartments with water using a cup, etc. If that doesn't get it going, could be something else, like a large clog or it may just be time for a new filter. But the fact that it's humming makes me think it...

    Cichlids

I'll have to go with Ulrichsd on this one. Demasoni are some of my favorite Mbunas, but they have very high conspecific aggression. I have 11 of them in a tank that's 6'4" long, id, with Malawi butterflies, redfin borleyis, acei, and yellow lab, so there are plenty of other fish to entertain...

    Upgrading to 90 gal tank

I probably wouldn't add fish just yet. I use the "cheater method" also when I start a new tank, but in my experience, the first couple days give a false reading. After 3 or 4 more days, you may still find nitrites in your tank. IMO, wait at least a week, do another reading, and go from there.

    Hello All

Welcome to the forum. There are some very imaginative and artistic aquascaped tanks in the 'Member's Tanks' forum here, mine not included.

    Jaguar cichlid sex

Well, consider that fish are like people: they rarely adhere to a "species standard." If you want a better opinion though, get the best pics you can and take them to a LFS. Most LFS will have at least one cichlid "expert" working there. If it turns out to be female, please let me know. Don't...
