    Back in the hobby

After a year in our new home, I finally got the chance to set up a tank. I did have a little ten set up just to house my og Petey-Plecostomus and a gbr. When I took down my 55 a year ago all the fish were donated to the local club, but I couldn't let those two go. The ten was far from...

Considering Malawi tank, a couple questions...

I realize this was a stupid question... :) I was assuming everyone would know I was thinking only of on average 4" fish. I should have asked: How many 4" Malawis can I keep in a 55? So... How many? coldmachineUK, I do like the idea of a single species only, nice suggestion. You know how...

    Lemon Tetra Surprise!

I was watching the tank this evening, and to my surprise I saw a little baby lemon tetra! :) It's actually about 1cm long, so it must have been in there a while. I have been trying to get a pic but it doesn't like to come out where I can get a good shot yet.

Considering Malawi tank, a couple questions...

I'm going to have 7 lemon tetras and 7 black skirt tetras up for grabs. If you're interested drop me a pm. I have pretty much decided on this for a stock list: Cynotilapia afra "cobue", 2 male, 5 female Pseudotropheus sp. "red top ndumbi", 1 male, 3 female Aulonocara sp. "lwanda", 1 male, 2-3...

Considering Malawi tank, a couple questions...

Thanx for the advice so far. You got it ;) The more I look into this type of tank, the more excited I get. I'm definitely going forward with this plan. I'll be back with more questions!

Considering Malawi tank, a couple questions...

I'm going to be moving within the next couple months, and I think I want to start my 55 over as a Malawi tank. Naturally, I have a number of questions. 1. Does the male to female ratio depend on the species, or is there a general rule? 2. Will an xp2 and an Emperor 400 provide enough...

Lost 2 panda corries in the last week,

I'm guessing it's poor livestock. I bought six about 3 months ago (from petsmart), and am down to three for no good reason.

    No more angels :(

Mine got along great with everyone, even each other. Come pwc time, though, and they were getting increasingly aggressive towards one another. Decided (with some help, thanx JC) to get them to someone with more room. They are currently being housed together in a 200gal community tank, and I...

    No more angels :(

Well, the angels are gone. They just proved to not be a very good match. I was becoming more concerned that they would kill each other, so I adopted them out to a good home. Bummer. On the other hand, it's like a whole new tank! The personalities of all my tetras have really started to come...

Yep, that sounds about right. They are sure fun fish to have...

What makes you like a fish?

I picked behavior as my number one. I will say that when I first started this hobby my answer would probably have been appearance. The more I "get to know" my fish, and the longer I am around fellow hobbyists though, the more I realize that the biggest fascination for me is how unique each...

XP3 intake too strong for fish - Solution!

I agree with sparky... I think it's highly unlikely that the intake is so strong that a fish couldn't swim away from it if it is healthy. If it was indeed that strong, I think you would notice a lot more fish deaths more frequently. I had the same problem with some cardinals in a ten gallon...

    cycling new tank problems

The GE silicone 1 is fine. I'm really sceptical about the Devcon stuff. Their website, while it does say the stuff is non-toxic, doesn't say anything about it being aquarium safe. Same with the Novus stuff. You may want to re-post this as "Questions about acrylic tanks" to get it more...

    cycling new tank problems

I'm not familiar with acrylic tanks so I can't comment on that part. I was just on the Devcon site and didn't see anything listed as non-toxic... Post exactly which of their products you used and someone may be able to tell you if it was indeed safe or not.

    cycling new tank problems

Was the silicone and epoxy you used aquarium safe? Dead fish that quick I'm guessing is due to poisoning... Also, you will need to cycle the tank. Just adding seed material from the other tank will not do it alone. You will need an ammonia source, a test kit, and a few weeks of patience...

    Stocking opinions wanted.

I'm trading in my adult angels for more juvies. 1. How many juvies do you think I should get? 2. Should I get all matching angels, or all different? Current stock is in my sig, minus the two angels of course.
