From Dry Start to Rot (Dwarf Hairgrass)

Good day all! A bit frustrated, but I have a feeling I know what went wrong. Three weeks ago I attempted to dry start carpet Eleocharis parvula (20 gal long with Finnex 24/7 planted + and brightwell aquasoil). By day 3, a stench of rot seeped out of the tank when I lifted the clear plastic to...

    Metro 14 / Glut - Ratio & Dosing

I add 6ml to my 20 gal every other day. Works really well keeping algae at bay, in conjunction with h2o2.

    Favorite Substrate?

Depending how deep you'd like to make it. According to Drs Foster and Smith, the formula (in inches) is: (Aquarium Length x Width x Desired Substrate Depth) / 60 = How many liters you'll need. The liters to pounds conversion is 5 pounds = 2.5 liters. In my 20 long, I only wound up using...

plant substrate made my water cloudy. when will it clear

My scape has been up for only 2.5 months and I'm already starting to contemplate. I'm resisting the urge!!!

plant substrate made my water cloudy. when will it clear

Wow! I'm OCD. Water cloudiness at that level would drive me bonkers!

plant substrate made my water cloudy. when will it clear

Let your filter do the rest of the work. If it hasn't completely cleared up in a few days, do a 50 - 75% water change. But from what you stated, it looks like your filter can finish the job. Patience!

Deficiencies and toxicities of plant nutrients.

Thanks for posting the link. Awesome lighting! I'd love to give this a try with my 29 gal.

Deficiencies and toxicities of plant nutrients.

160 PAR! Impressive! May I ask, which light fixture you use?

    Lush ferts from eBay?

That's the problem. Root feeders not only require either a nutrient rich substrate, or root tab fertilizers, but they also need a substrate which can hold onto the nutrients. This is a substrate with a high Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC). The substrate holds onto the nutrients for the plant...

What substrate are you using? Any substrate fertilizer?

    Lush ferts from eBay?

Chelating agents are great deliverers (exchangers). Think about our respiratory system. Chelated iron, within our hemoglobin, acts in such a manner. They pick up CO2 from our muscles and travel to our lungs, where in our lungs they exchange the CO2 for Oxygen (O2), and then deliver the O2...

    Lush ferts from eBay?

Out of the plants you listed, the only column feeder is the Anubias. All others are root feeders (hence you need a nutrient rich substrate for them). Anubias is not the most demanding plant, so probably your dosing should be suffice. If you decide to add more demanding types, I'd most...

    Lush ferts from eBay?

Could be. What exactly is your dosing schedule? What are you dosing and how much? Also, what plants do you have?

    Lush ferts from eBay?

I personally wouldn't purchase a mixture of combined macros and micros. I'd dose alternately because micros and macros have an affinity for each other. They'll bind together and won't remain in ionized form for plants to use. I'd stick to preparing two separate bottles as opposed to combining...

Changing substrate in an established tank

I'm currently growing A reineckii mini, glossostigma elatinoides, hydrocotyle tripartita, ceratopteris thalictroides and few others in Brightwell Aquatics Rio Escuro Extra Fine. In a separate tank, I'm growing Staurogyne repens and Aponogeton madagescaris in the same substrate. I've come to...

    Worried about my psi

That means you need to increase the amount of CO2. Raise it by one bubble per sec. That should help.

    Worried about my psi

A dKh solution indicator is the best IMO. Bubbles per second and a psi meter do tell part of the story, but the dKh solution tells you how much CO2 saturation is in your tank. I keep mine at a lime green color. This color occurs with 2 bubbles per second, in my 20 gal, which is about 38 to 40...

Little Side Project Using Brightwell Aquatics Rio Escuro Ultra Fine Substrate

Good deal! I know Eco isn't cheap. Maintenance is the inevitable. HC is slow, may be a bit too slow for new tank syndrome. That was my experience. Maybe using established bio media, makes the difference...

Little Side Project Using Brightwell Aquatics Rio Escuro Ultra Fine Substrate

My glosso is also growing upwards. Its due to how densely I planted the seeds. In two weeks, it grew 2.5 inches up. Was a lot of trimming, but this excess growth does show me the substrate is plentiful in nutrients, and my co2, light and column dosing are on point. I'm very happy with this...
